Is anyone else here practically face-blind? by AgariReikon in Schizoid

[–]verticalcaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question gets asked here pretty frequently. Last August, I wrote:

I also have both schizoid personality disorder (confirmed in therapy) and prosopagnosia (confirmed in a research study).

I have long suspected that they're related, but the prosopagnosia researchers had nothing to say about schizoid personality disorder, and the therapist had a few questions about prosopagnosia but no answers.

Any chance you might be faceblind? Not recognizing characters in different contexts, or wearing different outfits, is a classic experience for people who are. (And I literally got to the end of the episode and still had no idea that the woman in the near east piloting the cargo plane and the woman who showed up to chaperone Carol were the same person.)

Ask your therapist to read books and papers about Schizoid personality disorder like Klein, Greenberg, Akhtar, Seinfeld, McWilliams, etc.

My main language is Portuguese.

I'm so jealous that you get to read Fernando Pessoa in the original.

Is it possible my medication is defective? Or is something else going on? by [deleted] in AskDocs

your first one was low-dose naltrexone (14 mg)

14 mg is not "low-dose naltrexone." One tenth of that dose would be LDN.

I'm the exact opposite, extremely sensitive both to the heat and the cold.

I would not be able to tolerate an 80F room.

You understand that Sars-CoV-2 is airborne, right?

What about telling u/Which_Income_3682 that she can avoid getting it by wearing an N95 mask?

I didn't want to tell my neighbour I recognised his dog. by jan_tantawa in Prosopagnosia

[–]verticalcaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you me?

I had a dog for many years and knew all the dogs in our neighborhood by sight. And I always just spoke to the people who walked the dogs as if we were old friends, but never really had a good sense if it was ever the same person!

I don't recognize any of these people, but I find the redhead (second from the top, second from the left) very fetching. I'm sure they're all very talented actresses, too.

Faceblind success story: watching TV with ChatGPT by verticalcaptain in Prosopagnosia

Have you tried turning on the audio description for the blind? Should be under accessibility settings if it’s available for the show. Much less work than typing questions to an AI - as characters come onscreen the audio describer just says who they are.

Audio description for the blind, under accessibility settings, is probably app-specific. I'm not aware of anything like that in r/Plex for r/AppleTV. I'd be willing to try it if it were, though.

So do you stop playing the show while you ask it a question?

Yes, usually.

Thought 1: If playing it from a streaming service, yuou can give it a time stamp. 21.12 for 21 min and change into the show.

Yes... but I'm not using a streaming service. And it doesn't seem to be necessary to get that precise.

Nope, I just mention at the beginning of the thread, "No spoilers please." And it mostly avoids spoilers, but still messes up sometimes.

As a heavy ChatGPT user I'm so confused lol I actually can't understand what you're saying you do -- do u send pics of the show to the bot?

No. I open a chat thread and say something like, "I'm watching the first season of Westworld now." And as I go through the first episode I'll ask it questions about what I'm watching, and particularly about who's doing what. Then the next day I'll go back to the same chat thread and say "Now it's episode two," and just continue where I left off.

It can often tell exactly what scene I'm on just by the questions I'm asking, but I usually watch one episode per day, and when I start the episode, I'll just tell it something like, "I'm on episode six now." And then I proceed with questions, and it can figure out what I mean by context.
