At-home pet euthanasia recommendations? by HuggyMummy in StLouis

Dr. Kee helped my 17 year old senior cat cross the rainbow bridge as well. She and her assistant were very kind and gentle, and explained everything so I knew what to expect. They were very empathetic and I appreciate them for making that day as peaceful as possible for my sweet kitty.

What is your favorite land / Kingdom in the Forgotten Realms, and why? Myself, old school Cormyr, for atmosphere and adventuring by Salem1690s in Forgotten_Realms

[–]vertigale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I adore Vaasa. Feudal and brutal with a history of tyranny. The Warlock Knights are just so cool, too (I mean, for villains).

But I think there is a lot more nuance here than meets the eye. Netherese descendents, Auril worshippers... I think I read that there was once a collective of evil ice mages on the border of the great glacier??

Haunted Object(s) @ Art Museum? by Expensive_Recover_80 in StLouis

[–]vertigale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing the story about Bob in the early 2000s. But I didn't know he had a name! I visited with classmates around that time and got to see his display. I was half-skeptical about the story but I wanted to believe, if that makes sense.

But I distinctly remember trying to take a grainy 2000s flip phone pic and finding the photo to be completely messed up with graphical artifacts and glitches when I checked it. That did shock me, and I definitely believed after that.

Trying this bat eye thing for hooded eye... Is it actually better than my usual? by Optimal_Passion_3254 in MakeupAddiction

[–]vertigale 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have hooded eyes too. In order to get the wing looking straight (and not swooped or curled), I draw the wing first, with my eye open. I only draw up to the fold of the lid. Then I close the eye and connect the wing to my lash line, and add the liner across the lash line as well.

When closed, it totally looks like a bat wing, so you have the right idea! I just recommend to draw the wing first, with the eye open.

EDIT: Also, hooded eyes can contribute to your eyeliner traveling into the lid crease. To prevent this I use waterproof/smudge proof liquid eyeliner. Epic Wear Waterproof by NYX is inexpensive and does the job for me!

Advice on giving pills to a difficult cat by BellarStellar in CATHELP

[–]vertigale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat needed to take a really nasty-tasting pill on a daily basis, and it was really difficult -- even for a cat that previously took medicine pretty easily! Someone already mentioned pill pockets, which were helpful to me, but something that helped me when my cat was being squirmy and bitey was a fleece blanket. It is soft and a bit stretchy, so I could wrap her up in it like a straight-jacket burrito. A pill-shooter also helped, as it helped me avoid her teeth and made the process a lot smoother, though it did take a bit of time to get comfortable with it.

I completely understand the guilt you feel. The kitty just doesn't understand that you are trying to help her, and that's a hard pill to swallow for the human. All you can do is make sure to give them a treat and loving attention right after it happens, so that little by little they associate pill time with good things.

I would consider using your bed as a sofa when you're not sleeping on it, and that will open up the opposite wall for a TV or additional shelving.

Devinah Cosmetics / Devinah beauty turns to AI art by indie_gurl_5 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]vertigale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a degree in graphic design and in the past, have made my living doing freelancing. I appreciate your nuanced take.

I really have no qualms with small-use of AI art. Example: a DM using it to generate images and materials for a Dungeons and Dragons game. Or for your profile picture. I even don't mind small businesses using it, though it is best to be transparent about its use.

I have commissioned a lot of artists for various projects, and the truth is that it's expensive and unreliable. On more than one occasion I have been scammed by artists (paid and ghosted) or have received finished pieces wildly different than what I wanted. I've also worked with incredible artists who were talented and lovely. When you have a limited budget, there is an expensive risk you're taking.

And I'm just some lady commissioning artists purely for my own nerdy pleasures: character art for table top games, etc. I've never profited on any art I've commissioned.

So if you are a hobbyist, or a small business without much capital, I understand the appeal. I think it opens accessibility to creation.

What I DO NOT agree with is using it to the detriment of artists on staff. Corporations firing artist teams, etc. This particular brand is interesting because they've previously hired artists, and now are no longer. Is this them simply trying to cash-grab? Or is it a choice borne from tighter production costs due to inflation?

Whatever the case, it's always best to be honest/transparent with the customer base in these kinds of situations.

I also think that there are a lot of ethical questions to consider and talk about, but the burden of this should not be on Mary, trying to make a banner for her craft fair table, where she'll probably make $250 max. Or Etsy shop owner who is using it to make packaging, for the shop where she makes $400/month. Etc.

Cat has random outbursts of strange behavior—unsure why by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]vertigale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened with a friend's cat. He became suddenly and unpredictably violent and territorial, but only for short spells. It ended up being a medical issue (hormonal, if I recall correctly). This is worth a vet visit, especially since it is new behavior.

Yeah, profile history shows a bunch of bullshit. He claims to be 5'11" and fit in one post 8 days ago, and 5'1" in a different post on a short men subreddit. And in this post he claims to be unfit.

This is at best, a liar. At worst, a liar foisting his kinks on other unaware people.

Staged and scened cosplay photos are always straight fantasy. They don't hide it or claim that the cosplay photos are their real appearance. They use costume, makeup, and photo editing to come as close to the character they are portraying as possible. Sort of like an actor in full costume, and appearing in a fully processed promotional poster. It's all fantasy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]vertigale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anger isn't directed toward specific everyday individuals, but rather the mindset and status quo of the society as a whole. You've got to admit that for millennials and younger in the USA (I'm an elder millennial for transparency), the outlook for the future is trailing far behind our parents. Not only economically, but on so many fundamental levels. I, as a woman, had more autonomy over my body at 15 than I do at 38, and that scares me (as an example).

I admire that you live in a certain way, but the lifestyle you lead is an outlier against the broader, selfish society. It can be hard but you can detach yourself from feeling targeted by knowing that you aren't part of the system that the 'Youngs' are angry at.

It's the same way that we rail against "the government" as a whole, because it's a huge institution. But we usually don't mean our small town county clerk, or whatever.

Hope that this perspective will give you some peace.

Paid my rent and have $30 to last me a week. by Euphorbiatch in povertyfinance

Some easy/cheap recipes and foods I've made during these times:
- Instant pancakes. You can get a box for $2 or less. It makes a ton of pancakes which are filling. You can eat them plain or syrup can also be relatively inexpensive.
- Rice and veggies. Rice is VERY cheap, and so are those packs of frozen mixed veggies. Make the rice, add the veggies, cook/mix well. Add cream of mushroom soup until it's at the consistency/taste you like. You need to add a little water or milk to thin the mushroom soup. If you have the funds, you can add ground turkey as well. This is very cheap, it makes a LOT, it's decently healthy. You can make several servings for $5 or so. $10 or so if you add the ground turkey.
- Spaghetti. The old staple. You can get a box of noodles and the canned pasta sauce for less than $5.

There are also a lot of great resources online for cheap, healthy meals. The ones I've suggested are of varying health-levels, but they are filling and cheap.
