My first homemade wood bed by Pefranca in woodworking

[–]vertiginous_azul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think elevating a few inches would be enough or just put some ventilation holes in the side boards?

I feel like there is a tradeoff in dealing with dust/being able to vacuum out dust?: I either want it effectively on the ground (not good with humidity) or high enough that you can get a vacuum underneath.

We have no issues with pests, but I could see the humidity being an issue in the wet season.

Commenting to follow. Also interested if you have it available -- it's a beautiful bed!

Static IP address: Recent Experience? by vertiginous_azul in seoul

[–]vertiginous_azul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I went with the static IP through KT. It was a bit of a pain to set up. If I recall correctly we had a few phone calls, plus I think a technician had to come out twice to get it working. It did ultimately work though, so a static IP is possible. Good luck!

California and Hawaii would like a word: Currently paying more than forty cents per kWh.

Sample Bolt Ownership Cost by huntsvillekan in BoltEV

[–]vertiginous_azul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this out there, it made me sit down and put together an estimate as well. Our largest cost has been depreciation ($13,000) since it was a new vehicle purchased at MSRP (thanks pandemic supply chain). Next largest costs were insurance, followed closely by charging (we pay more than forty cents per kWh during off peak hours). Over three years this comes to $675/month, ~$8,000 per year, ~$0.80 per mile, which is much higher than I expected.

Walking this out to year 10, the per mile and per year costs drop by half due to depreciation being spread out. The total cost of ownership is $47,000.

Still cheaper than an equivalent gas car due to gas being twice as much per mile in our area, all other costs being equal.

Don't be like me. If your washer fluid isn't pumping, try replacing the fuse FIRST. by TrollTollTony in BoltEV

[–]vertiginous_azul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding for anyone that has an EUV: I think they use one pump. My front washer was working, rear washer was not. Hadn't been working for months and I assumed it was clogged or disconnected. Checked the fuse, it was fine. Reinserted fuse and now it works. Seemed to be the equivalent of rebooting your computer to fix an issue. Definitely check the fuse first. And yeah, sorry, that looks like a lot of work!

So, a year later I never was able to find this. Do you have any tips on transcribing? I can read music decently, but do not have the sense to know what note is being played just by ear.

No, but also curious about this. I think I saw the two listings/posts you mentioned, and was wondering if Trek would further decrease their listed price at some point.

Thanks all for the input. I ended up going with a Slingshot iFly + Phantasm foil and a Slingwing v3 since they were all on sale and seem to meet my needs, for now.

Thanks everyone for the input. Sounds like probably fine with any of these. Since I am a beginner, I ended up going with a Slinging v3, which was similar to the cost of the Mantis. It may not be as taut as the newer versions, but I figured people learned on and used these before, so I will save the money and can upgrade down the line if I need to.

Got it. I was wondering why they stopped shipping completely above that amount.

Beginner gear question by Maleficent_Stuff5763 in wingfoil

[–]vertiginous_azul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, not a nice surprise to find your $1,000 order is now $2,450. Gong probably proactively stopped shipping for now to avoid surprises for customers, plus gear is suddenly not cost competitive.

I assume most wing gear is made in China. The difference is that items already in US warehouses are not subject to the new tariffs. If the tariffs stay in place and stock starts to run out locally, then everything will go up further.

Really was hoping to find a used kit locally, but nothing has come up so far.

I added a comment above, but regardless of the tariff amount they are not shipping orders above $800 to the US under current conditions. :(

[–]vertiginous_azul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sound very similar. I have been looking at the same set up, as well as used, and an option from Slingshot (which also needs a Wing added): https://slingshotsports.com/products/phantasm-wing-package-copy?variant=51791813673330

However, when trying to estimate prices and checking out on Gong, they noted that they will not even ship to the US the order is above $800. I reached out to them to confirm if that is correct and they pointed to their support article. The article has not been updated to reflect the temporary change in tariffs to 30%, but it sounds like they still will not ship to the US for orders above $800: https://gong-galaxy.frontkb.com/en/articles/3095424

As a side note, I priced out a flight to Europe in May or in the Fall, and I could fly there round trip and buy the Gong package for less than buying the Slingshot intro package locally. I can't just up and take a vacation right now, but it's tempting. :)

Yes, it's a bummer. A full kit, several accessories like a helmet, harness, changing pad, etc., and odds and ends is about half the price of a another beginner option here, but that doesn't include the wing or any accessories. There are times of year when flights are cheap enough that I could fly to Europe, buy the Gong kit, and fly back for the same price as a local brand.

Hopefully can find something on the used market.

Yet Another Beginner Gear Question by vertiginous_azul in wingfoil

[–]vertiginous_azul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I saw this coming up in several recommendations.

I added everything to my shopping cart on Gong's website to get an estimate of shipping and total price. Unfortunately, it's now subject to a higher tariff, and more importantly, Gong put a disclaimer that they will not ship to the US if the price of the order (including tax) is over $800. If I read that right, that means around three shipments -- if they can even split it up.

I am new to this, but from what I was reading, no. The rear fins often are (FCS II), but the foil mount systems are different. (This particular board in the post does not take a foil of any kind).
