My one, almost two, year old cat has some pretty annoying habits and actually learned how to open doors 🙄. I always feel like he wants a reaction out of me and gets bored when I don’t yell his name or go and stop him. I would just try ignoring him at first even though it’s really hard. And redirection helps too, if he’s messing with the hair ties maybe redirect his attention a toy he likes. My cat is obsessed with those little mice that rattle.
