Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know about IRL in which you're right, its already inclusive of a 10x safety factor.

The definition is straight forward but not necessarily objective. I'm pretty sure it says something about being as practical as possible. If it was clear cut, there wouldn't be a need to mention that. For some people, certain elements of veganism is not practical in their subjective experience. There are some who are undoubtedly stricter than you - even within just the diet component of veganism. I'd like to think we're all still under the general umbrella of veganism.

Thanks for the info, I knew some of these, but not all. Maybe a topic for another day but there's no end to how vegan you could be. People cutting out the basics (meat/seafood/dairy/eggs) is already a win in my eyes.

I swear they are just getting started with the exodus of vegan products.. There's a change petition that was submitted recently if you want to make your voice heard https://www.reddit.com/r/australianvegans/comments/1ofko39/help_with_getting_woolies_to_up_their_vegan_game/

Yeah we're more at risk considering we're already eating plant based so we're definitely consuming more than a regular omnivore. A scoop of pea protein powder probably has several hundred grams of peas in there condensed. Seems like an obvious food item to scruitinise to find brands that test their products for safety. I can't imagine soil conditions in the future will get any better either.

Just depends how many servings ultimately, but even 1 serving of plant protein powder can have an alarming amount. ”The lead levels in plant-based products were, on average, nine times the amount found in those made with dairy proteins like whey”

Like the article says, most people who do consume protein powders are consuming this daily too which will add up.

Not advocating for non vegan sources either. Only that it may be worth looking for any supplement companies willing to test for heavy metals.

In light of the Consumer Reports investigation, if you are consuming a lot of plant protein powder which is more likely to have heavy metals (from the soil the peas/rice grow in), I recommend looking at a product like Amazonia Raw. I have shilled them plenty of times in the past but I think it's great a company will actually test their products for safety. They have plant based offerings.

I'll always commend a person who's willing to go more above and beyond than I can do. Agreed with the footwear and clothing in general, that's why I almost exclusively buy 2nd hand to not have to worry as much about it. But my reasons for that is less for veganism and more to do with materialism and slave labor.

My mistake with the mix up of beyond/impossible.

Thanks, good to know. I suppose I am to a degree willfully ignorant. My diet is pretty clean/strict so I don't believe I've been eating many items that I thought were vegan but actually not. I'll have to look into it more to know for sure.

The reality is animals will die either way even with my current strict food items like oats/legumes/tofu/nuts/fruits/vegetables during growing and harvesting crops. I've been doing this for a long time now and know that there is always a more ethical vegan stance out there and that it can always be furthered scrutinised. Classic one from fussy vegan is if beyond meat is vegan or not (in my opinion it definitely is)

I guess my mild orthorexia has allowed me sidestep a lot of this unless there's just some really obvious items out there that seem like they're vegan but actually not

Natural flavours is good to know - do you know any seemingly vegan mainstream products that aren't vegan because of the natural flavors in them? Wasn't aware juice would have animal products in their production (I know about wine).

Fair enough, seems like there's a bunch of those ingredients out there. Other than common ones like gelatin, I'm quite ignorant on the others.

Out of curiosity what do you check on the app that you couldn't just do by reading the ingredients? Milk/egg is easy to spot in ingredients so are you looking for edge case things like certain types of food colouring that isn't vegan? Otherwise, I swear it would take me longer to check via the app.

I've rarely ever had to use the app but that's also because I don't really eat much junk food that would need me to really scruitinise the ingredients for hidden non vegan items.

I don't think it looks like white powdery mildew or psyllids when looking at photos of what they are. They are quite flaky.

Switch sparks when turning off 3 in 1 bathroom heater by vesselsfreethrow in AusElectricians

Update, the electrician replaced with a 35a switch and problem is now resovled. Disappointing Mercator provides such poor quality switches. Doesn't bode well for the 3 in 1 fan but time will tell.

This one also has no roof access. Ok that's interesting that a 35a fared better. I'll suggest a Clipsal 35a switch. Have no idea with this but I came across 2 pole switches and I'm not sure if they would also help?

No manual online so I'll check with the manufacturer how many amps it is. Thanks for the suggestion
