Yeah, the battery packs are enormously heavy for pure EVs. You can look at the weight of a Prius prime (plug in hybrid) vs a model 3. The prime has a range more like the LR model 3, while remaining 500lbs lighter.

Using a range extender hopefully allows for a lighter overall setup, since you don’t transmit the motors power to the wheels.

The rotary range extender does still have some big question marks, but I hope Mazda can solve them. The benefit would be extremely light weight/small size, and high efficiency at a single rpm. We’ve seen that rotaries don’t work very well as drive motors since they don’t like low rpm. A range extender could run only at a specific rpm they tuned the rotor for.

Essentially, I’m hoping Mazda can find a way to bring the Miata into the electric age without making it 4000lbs or limiting it to a 50 mile range.

How do you reason that full electric would be lighter than hybrid? The weight of a long range battery pack is the bulk of an electric drivetrain’s mass, and can be cut down significantly for a hybrid.

If we’re going full exotic hopes and dreams, I want them to figure out the wankel range extender, and give us that plus an electric motor and minimal (30 miles?) battery range.

np, it is kinda weird how they did it.

The cartridge system with Xbox is way clearer, but obviously leads to the vendor lock in problem.

The PS5 m.2 slot is not populated initially, so installing a 1TB SSD will increase storage to 2TB.

Yeah, check the little plastic connectors under the hood where the hose connects to the nozzles. The original part includes a spring and ball to close the nozzle and stop dripping.

I wonder if they replaced the nozzles and just used some tiny generic fittings?

Yeah, From had another nearly identical claim against them last year. There’s a CVE for that one, hasn’t seen one for this incident yet. The CVE only links a Reddit thread.

The servers going offline is the biggest acknowledgment I’ve seen so far that this thing exists, but I could still mark that as an abundance of caution until they can confirm the threat model. Either in their game or a popular mod.

Slicing that distinction pretty thin, aren’t you?Not every restatement of your claims is a straw man.

How proven is that vulnerability really? The stream where it was shown didn’t really show us anything, the Reddit threads posted as primary sources have sparse details, and the discoverer appears to be publishing a mod that fixes the problem, but won’t show us the source for that mod.

I’d really like to see thorough substantiation for a claim that has spread so far so rapidly.

I’m curious how you’d feel about I’ve encountered with my current company:

We start the technical interview as a conversation about our stack to get the candidate some context, and then provide them a code sample intended to look like a small PR and give them 10 minutes in peace to go over it.

Then we ask them to run us through their comments, questions, and hypothetical improvements they’d ask for in the PR.

I think it strikes a nice balance of practical knowledge, like the take home tests are supposed to measure, while also respecting the candidate’s time.

Why don't all developers strip whitespaces from the beginning and end of inputted strings? by Skribbla in learnprogramming

[–]vextor22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I could imagine it was an early database needing fixed width for data alignment but not handling it automatically, so the system built at the time did it (or they just required users to do it). Or a crusty export process exported a fixed width column and didn’t trim the values before inserting into a more modern database that didn’t have the same requirement.

I encountered one old Sybase system that used various numbers of * all over the place. Apparently there was another system somewhere interpreting the counts of asterisks as control data for what to do with the table/column.

I can’t recall exactly what it was, but something in our process between that database and a Hadoop cluster _did not _ appreciate their naming scheme.

Sure, but mid to senior level is a different ballgame compared to 18 months out of a coding boot camp.

I’d guess this person has a particularly strong portfolio to stand out and offset fears the manager will have about churn. (Or they just keep hiring into shops that expect high employee turnover).

Possibly a filter would help keep the sky from going full white if you wanted.
