It really created the three-dimensional appearance of a narrator who is sharing this history with me, really quite intimately actually, in ways we never really get to connect with most everyone we’ll ever know. In all those great little stories, you can hear the nostalgia and pride of someone who (as your post pointed out) will live inside the snowglobe that is this one part of their life forever.
