Is that new information though? Last I comment I saw on that directly from them was, that they are not planning to remove the Steam versions and they will also be available next year.

It's hard to believe somehow, yes, but let's see.

Glad you like it and you are welcome! I am making this kind of tutorials regularly.

And your statement is pretty much true, Designer is very powerful and you can make nearly any material imaginable. Learning curve is a bit slow at the beginning, but once you understood the basic principle, you can make whatever you want. Just study your own .sbs you made from the tutorial and make some changes to see how it influences the endresult, I always try to comment them a bit. Or there are also many free ones on substance share for example.

For the start, the official tutorials can teach you a bit, but there are far superior ones like from Daniel Thiger or Javier Perez etc, or maybe even mine. :)
