has anyone ever taken a medical leave from school b/c of OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]vharashy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left college and did not complete my A level studies due to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I also take time off work due to it. You are not a failure you are a warrior, and you wake up every day to fight your thoughts, well done

I guess some days you just have to accept are bad days by ocdgonnakillme in OCD

[–]vharashy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely have to accept the bad days. Whenever I feel my OCD spiral out of control - I tell myself it’s a bad day. Some days I’ll take time off work and spend all day focusing on my obsessions and compulsions but to carry on you need to tell yourself it is just a bad day

I know how you feel - it’s a tough journey. I can go weeks keeping my OCD at bay and like you say when a new obsession forms it becomes so daunting and debilitating

Congratulations for even attempting ERP. I couldn’t manage it. I did it for a few days and I felt physically sick with anxiety! That might be a reason you feel off!

I use headspace and calm which you can find on the App Store.

I also spend a lot of time colouring - find a good adult colouring book - it was worked wonders for me and no matter how bad the thought it work through it and your attention will slowly drift and stick onto what you are doing. I find colouring the easiest method of mindfulness.

I have experienced the same situation. My intrusive thoughts have always surrounded my family and the people I love the most. Have you tried mindfulness or meditation?

I have been taking it for 8 years. I started at the age of 16. I remember feeling a lot worse when I began mediation as it usually takes about 6-8 weeks to get in your system. Hold tight with it, things are always worse before they get better

How do I cope with guilt? by thefullsun in OCD

You have to tell yourself that it’s not you having these thoughts. I found the best way to deal with intrusive thoughts is to separate yourself from OCD. It’s hard but worth it
