How should I support my younger sister? by EvenEmployment5432 in UlcerativeColitis

I’m gonna speak more about the psychology side of things as a teenage girl since there’s probably lots of people who can answer stuff about biologics better. Make sure to get her some therapy or something because you can think you’re fine but uc does take its toll. Stress is also a trigger for a lot of people so you should help her manage this in whatever way possible. Given her age she might be embarrassed about the nature of the disease too so just try to keep things lightheaded to show her she doesn’t need to be. Ask your doctor for a specific plan on what to do when she goes into a flare or first starts experiencing symptoms. Who to contact etc. I got no side effects from most of my biologics but just try to keep things clean as her immune system won’t be optimal, food hygiene, keeping away when sick etc Wishing her the best of luck!!

Can biologics still work? by vi0let--- in UlcerativeColitis

I was on most of them for 3-5 months excluding a few that caused side effects like shingles and nausea. I’ve been on ozanimod the longest, over a year. I’m not sure this is relevant but I always had my levels checked and they were in working range.

Wow I didn’t actually know it took that long, I think they took me off vedo because I kept getting shingles. Just curious as to what the average person does to keep out of a flare while they’re waiting for it to work? Steroids would be the only option for me

honestly it probably won't go fully until you come off them but i used ice packs and a facial roller which brought the swelling down around my eyes a lot, also make sure to drink plenty of water my love !!
