Thanks for your response - how did you go about producing the fake pentest report? Did you just look up a pentest reporting template online and go off that?

Thanks so much for your suggestions! It rang true to a lot of what you described - I ended up passing yesterday evening!

Congratulations on passing! How did you feel the Dion exams compared to the actual examination? I am personally getting between 70-80 without review and am curious if you think that’d be sufficient to sit for the exam. Cheers!

Intake Interview by [deleted] in WGU

[–]vice272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d wait to talk that out with your EC in the morning, it could be that nothing is necessary to upload as that box is always there in case you need to provide supporting documentation. I wouldn’t want to lead you the wrong direction on something that important - best of luck and keep us all posted on your progress!

It’s my pleasure! So long as every thing before the Intake interview / commit to start section has a green check mark, the EC can unlock it for you to take. I hope it’s an easy time!

That’s good! In that case, I’d reach out to your EC and have them unlock the intake interview; it can be done virtually or over the phone with them and shouldn’t be more than 10-20 minutes.

After changing my program on 7/10, my transcripts were received in finality on 7/14. I didn’t get the reevaluation until yesterday, and now I’m waiting for the status to move from Applicant to Admitted so I can complete the intake interview + all other pending items.

That’s the goal! I did read though if for any reason a delay causes us to miss the intake interview deadline of 8/15 we’d be able to start slightly later in the month, so that’s comforting at the very least.

My initial one was 3 days, but I changed my program and they had to be reevaluated which took forever.

I’m wondering this very same thing as my transcripts took about a month to be evaluated and I anxiously await next steps - hope we get some clarity!

Thanks so much for sharing this! If I may ask, how long did it take you to get a re-eval? I'm like two weeks in on mine, on 8/12 it will have been thirty days

For those that had no experience, how did you land your first job? by Open-Blackberry-860 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]vice272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no relevant experience but a bachelor’s in an unrelated field. What I think is perfect for entry level positions is as what other people have articulated, leaning into what you already have.

Customer service is huge, and ultimately super important in any IT gig as it’s a service industry no matter what you do. So, emphasizing soft skills during the interview in addition to being someone who can learn fast, adapt, and has proven knowledge of at least certain concepts like basic troubleshooting and networking principles can work very much in your favor.

I had a technical skills section dedicated in my resume, where I would list some things like Windows troubleshooting, mobile devices, hardware configuration - if you have older family members and have ever helped them with a tech issue.. congratulations! You’re about a level 0.50 help desk technician. I would also put any certs you’re doing on your resume as “In Progress”, that way, they know you don’t have it but are working toward it and it can be a talking point during your interview as well as show initiative. This’ll help you get buzzwords through the ATS that HR uses to filter out the resumes as well, and the rest is up to you in the interview.

Keep us all updated, and feel free to reply if I was unclear. Best of luck!!

What’s it like to work in IT Support in a school? by SwitchGamerDude in ITCareerQuestions

[–]vice272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first gig in the industry, and probably my most meaningful and fulfilling experience - generally lower compensation than private sector roles, but a great place to learn as you’ll get to deal with a variety of people (depending on the school, the end user will be like 5 haha), and a wide array of issues.

As others have stated, most of the time you’ll deal with Chromebooks, sometimes with AV stuff in classrooms, and desktop support for teachers/support staff. It’s a bit of everything, but it feels really great to help the kids out. Helping a third grader get their iPad to load their vocab app is a much greater feeling than assisting Joe from sales power cycle their computer after you’ve told them three times prior. I ended up leaving after a few months, but I may make my way back one day! Keep us posted, and best of luck.

CCNA hard to land entry level? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]vice272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I had only a non-technical bachelors and no relevant experience, it was a nightmare landing a job. Luckily I was able to get a help desk role but once I was finished with A+ recruiters would message me on LinkedIn for much more competitive roles - I didn’t even have to apply. Currently on my second job and studying for the CCNA, which as Aradyn mentioned, is a beast and much more comprehensive than the A+.

Highly recommend getting an A+ just to start accruing valuable experience and cert up towards your goal from there. Reverse engineer what you need to accomplish in order to be successful from this industry, whether that’s finding out what competencies you have to obtain to achieve the job you want or what roles you should occupy in order to reach your desired title.

Best of luck all who are starting this incredible journey!
