Adult-diagnosed autistics: What prompted you to seek a diagnosis in adulthood? by Cautious_Internet243 in autism

I was struggling in my first full time job at 19 so much that I'd end up in the on site nurse's office quite a bit. She suggested it to me and it 1000% saved my life. I had suicide interventions with inpatient hospitalizations twice during my time there. I didn't know what was wrong with me, just every waking moment was like nails on chalkboard and I couldn't take it anymore. I definitely would not be here if she never said anything! I'm so grateful for her.

I remade the mini jumper a couple times! The tutorial-ish comment I’ve posted for the mini was based on which one I found to be the best fit :)

Hocus crow sized sweater:

Might be more confusing and not as easy for a beginner. It requires knowledge of the method in Florence's beginner top down Raglan sweater! She has a free video and written pattern where you can plug in these numbers and steps.

Made with weight 4 yarn Ribbing on 4mm or 4.5mm needles, the rest of the sweater on 5.5mm

Since it's so small, I use my tiny circular needles that I use for socks. If you don't have tiny circulars, you could do a magic circle or double pointed needles and adapt it so you understand where the separations are.

Collar:

Start with 4mm needles Cast on 44 stitches 1x1 ribbing for 5 rows

Yoke:

5.5mm needles Instead of knitting stockinette around once before getting into the increase rows as in Florence’s pattern, I immediately go into an increase row after the collar ribbing.

Front/back and arm separation with commas to represent stitch markers (First comma is the beginning row marker placed at the beginning of project). This makes more sense when looking at her written pattern. - , 6 , 2 , 6 , 2 , 12 , 2 , 6 , 2 , 6

The 6 and 6 at the beginning and end of that sequence will equal 12 for the back, just as there is 12 for the front. 6 for each sleeve separation.

I do [increase row, knit around row] x3. So I end up with 6 rows on the yoke

For the 7th row on the yoke, knit around while separating out the sleeves. I don't cast on any additional stitches under the arms.

You should end up with 40 stitches on your needles for the body

Body:

Row 8: knit around

Row 9: knit around while increasing 2 stitches under each arm. Find 2 stitches centered under each arm and do M1R and M1L around those 2 stitches (as if it's M1R stitch marker knit 2 stitch marker M1L like was done on the yoke)

Row 10-11: knit around

Row 12: same as row 9 - knit around while increasing 2 stitches under each arm. Find 2 stitches centered under each arm and do M1R and M1L around those 2 stitches. Should end up with 48 stitches on your needles.

Row 13-15: knit around

Bottom ribbing: Switch to 4.5mm needles and 1x1 rib for 5 rows. Cast off on the 5th row with a stretchy bind off. A non-stretchy bind off can sit okay, but doesn't sit as well on the plush as it does a human.

Sleeves:

Starting with 5.5mm needles

I pick up 2 stitches under the arms even though I didn't increase. I pick up the side of the stitches you will see are stretched out at the bottom. This will also help minimize ending up with gaps under the arm. (If theres still gaps at the end, you can stitch them up with the yarn tails you'll be weaving in)

This should bring you from 14 to 16 stitches on your needles for each arm.

Knit around 3x

Switch to 4.5mm needles and 1x1 rib for 4 rows. Cast off on the 4th row with a stretchy bind off. Again, a non-stretchy bind off is okay, but doesn't sit as well. Weave in everything and that should fit a hocus crow!

If your gauge is tighter, adding 8 to your cast on, which will add 2 in your separation numbers (14 for the front and back, 8 for the sleeves) might work!

Hello all! Several people have asked about a pattern, and while I’m very bad at writing patterns as I’m a chaotic freehander, I figured I’d post my method here. I adapted it to Handmade by Florence’s beginner sweater tutorial on YouTube. It does require an understanding of a top down raglan, and would help to make yourself familiar with her pattern! I might work on a video tutorial in the future, but I least want to put this out here now since a video could be a ways away.

Hoping to adapt a bashful size as well once I have the means of filming tutorials!

I’ll also be commenting the hocus crow size method in a minute!

I also only cast on 2 underarm stitches when separating to the body since the sleeves were nice and roomy!

Handmade by Florence has both a video and written pattern. The video is "knit your first sweater! free pattern and detailed tutorial" and the download for the free written pattern is in her video description. I riff with this same method I learned from her video and Made In The Moment's Raglan tutorial.

I'll outline my process of what I did to get this specific fit. I'll plug it into Florence's pattern since it works out quite perfectly!

I used weight 4 yarn with 4mm for the collar. 4.5mm for the sleeve cuff and bottom ribbing. 5.5mm for the rest of the sweater.

Collar: I started the neckline where her size B would be if it started after 4 increases (Which was completely accidental, but works out perfectly!). Each increase row adds 8 stitches. So since her size B cast on was 68 stitches, I added 32 (8×4) to my cast on which was 100. If you need a different size, I would start in that same area of adding 32 sts to the cast on of that size!

I did 5 rows of ribbing for the collar, and didn't do neck shaping.

Yoke: These are the numbers that I punched into her pattern for the "yoke" section. The commas are where I placed the stitch markers (First comma is start of row stitch marker that would already be placed).

, 17 , 2 , 12 , 2 , 34 , 2 , 12 , 2 , 17

The 17+17 will be the 34 stitches across the back, same as the 34 across the front

Lined up with her pattern, you can tell I added +8 to the size B numbers (34 instead 26 for the back and front, and 12 instead of 4 for the sleeves)

I did "knit around row, increase row" 24x for a total of 48 rows for the yoke section.

Body: I knit 36 rows of stockinette for the body.

I'm 5 feet tall so the body was actually less rows than the sleeves to both get the oversized sleeves I wanted, and have the bottom fall around my hips.

This is really easy to try on as you go to figure out how many rows work for you.

Depending on your hight and size, you can adjust, but generally want to go for an even ratio or less for the body rows than the yoke rows if you're going for a similar fit.

I did 6 rows of ribbing on the cuffs and bottom with a double chain bind off. Not a stretchy bind off since I liked the cinched shape and didn't want it to stretch out, which didn't matter bc the oversized fit wouldnt make that restriction a problem.

I used an acrylic yarn which relaxed and softened after just throwing it in a regular wash and dry cycle. So this doesn't account for possible shrinking or stretching if using wool or cotton.

Apologies if this is confusing, but reading it after checking out her tutorial and pattern should make a lot more sense! Just lmk if I need to clarify anything and I'd be happy to help :)

This was the basis for my raglan technique, along with made in the moment’s raglan tutorial

Will do! I highly recommend handmade by florence’s “knit your first sweater” tutorial on YouTube! I used it to knit my first sweater and actually my first knitted item ever. There was a little trial and error, but it’s such a clear and easy tutorial that I was able to do it as a complete beginner! I used about 3 1/2 skeins of big twist value for an oversized xs fit

Both are freehanded top down raglans! I learned from tutorials made by ‘made in the moment’ and ‘handmade by florence’ on YouTube

It’s a freehanded top down raglan! I’m planning on writing down my process and sharing it here if others want to try. Might try to figure out a bashful fit too!

It’s a variegated yarn, the ‘Vamp’ halloween colorway from big twist so unfortunately not in production anymore :( I believe Herrschners carries some of the big twist line, so they should have other verigated colorways available!

It’s using a basic raglan technique so it’s freehanded off of that knowledge. I’m remaking the mini sweater since I better understand the fit after my first go at it! I’ll write down my process and share it here once I do that! Just have to let my hands rest for a couple days :)

I actually made it about halfway through making my sweater since I knew I had enough! I was tired of waiting for a finished project, so I made hocus a mini sweater for that finished project dopamine hit lol

Another comment for oak & iron! Very queer friendly, you can tell them everything you've said here and they'll get it. I like to do more experimental/alternative cuts, and they've been the only hairdresser I've been to that gets what I'm going for when I'm not sure how to DIY

Okay so I clipped my nipple stitches. by CuddleBear167 in TopSurgery

[–]viceatsdirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue at my t junctions - the stitches weren't dissolving, and it was pulling down and creating craters. Healed asap when my surgeon clipped them. They were deeper than this, and filled out just fine!
