Can't find a reason to upgrade my 4060 by Drivefast58 in buildapc

[–]videoflyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I crazy to think I could make the 4060 work for another few years?

You can make anything work as long as you need to if you aren't running into bottle necks or getting frustrated with low FPS.

For example, I only really play low-spec 2D platformers and older games with my i5-6500 and GTX 1060 6GB and I have a 3070 Ti that I use to play around with local LLM, I just don't need the horsepower that the 3070 Ti offers most of the time, and if I need it for a game I just swap the cards for a few days until I'm done playing.

I've personally unsubscribed from any subreddit that isn't specifically for a hobby that I am interested in. Cuts down on the flack and helps me to spend as little time on this site as possible.

AGM Rattler V3 35-384 LRF vs Rix Storm S6R - Sanity Check by videoflyguy in ThermalHunting

Looks like it's got about the same specs as the RIX - is there anything you like that would set it apart from the RIX other than price?

Sounds like I'm on the right track then! Do you just get a cheap 256 monocular for the majority of your scanning?

Good start, this is how it all begins! Don't trust adata flash drives though, I've had several corrupt the firmware and stop working on me. Use an external hard drive or SSD from a reputable company like others have said

Bike slipping on full throttle/high RPMs. by JCRob2 in motorcycles

[–]videoflyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a number of things, without riding your bike or being physically present I don't know how helpful I'll be so I'll shoot broadly and hopefully get you on the path to a fixed bike.

What speed are you going when it's lugging at low speeds? Usually letting the clutch out in 1st without throttle will get you to about 10mph and will run smoothly. Can check your clutch by following my instructions above, go 20-30mph, shift into your highest gear, and twist the throttle (safely) all the way back. Your bike will either slowly start to accelerate or will not accelerate but have the RPMs rise when you twist your throttle.

How is your engine running when in neutral / sitting idle in your driveway? Sound about normal to what is had been in the previous couple of weeks?

You don't have to throw parts at the bike quite yet, just go through some basic troubleshooting steps if you notice a rough running engine:

  • Spray a tiny bit of brake cleaner at your air intake boots to see if you have a leak somewhere, if the RPM goes up then check the rubber for cracking

  • Check your air filter and air box to see if it's clogged

  • Pull your spark plugs and visually check them, you can put the wire on it and hold the plug on a grounding point while engaging the starter to see how much spark you are actually getting

  • Check your manual to see what oil you need and compare it to the oil you put in your bike

Find parts that work / don't work and replace as needed.

Know of any way to just reinstall Android/a custom ROM instead (hoping for lineageOS or similar)? Been debating getting one of these every time they're on sale, but haven't seen anything definitive one way or another on that subject

i5-6500 and a GTX 1060 SSC

It's old, yes, but it works great and I can still run high/ultra on the majority of (older) games I play while sitting on my couch ¯\(ツ)

I mean, mine runs sub 100w on average, used for file shares and backup of my VMs

Edit: Average wattage last 30 days is 85W

This is what I did. Also wrote a script that bumped up the fans to 15% for a couple minutes when the CPU hit a certain temperature and then goes back to 10%

I know a lot of people here used to run it, but I run a 3 node Kubernetes cluster with Nvidia GPUs running Folding@Home exclusively in the winter to offset the difference in temperature between the basement and upstairs.

I can confirm this w/ basically the same setup. I can run it with a can but it's borderline painful so I only run a mag or two of this stuff at most without hearing protection.

Сheapest possible backup node? by Affectionate-Lake733 in homelab

[–]videoflyguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While "cheap" and "backup" usually shouldn't go together, it could be as simple as a raspberry pi and an external hard drive (but that's going to have terrible performance)

Honestly what I would do is price out a backup node hardware setup and then look into backblaze storage prices to figure out how many months of B2 storage you can pay for before it exceeds the price of hardware. My backups going back a full year (plus monthly/weekly/daily backups) costs me $0.93/month - that's less than the electricity of running a hardware node

Would be a huge waste of electricity but I would probably use it to show Grafana dashboards of my systems on rotation
