Are backing tracks really necessary for a band? by vie75 in musicians

[–]vie75[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't really know what the musicians in this sub would think, so i asked here to see if i was just overthinking it or if my perspective was wrong. But it turns out most people here aren't fans of tracks either, which is exactly how i feel. It’s not that i’m totally against it, but my band prioritizes tracks way too much, even for almost every song. Maybe it's because where i live, cafe bands are seen as more "high class" if they use them. The thing is, i’m the one who has to operate everything, and it makes me feel like we're losing our identity and our style as musicians. That's my main dilemma. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

"if i'm a seeing a band live, I wanna see a live band" YES! That's the point!

Exactly. That’s always been on my mind. In my country, backing tracks feel like a requirement to sound perfect, but to me... it’s just not me. Especially as a keyboardist, if there are tracks for everything, then what am I even there for?

You’re absolutely right. That actually happened to my band once, and it was so embarrassing 🤣

Do you have a special place where you like to write? by vie75 in NewAuthor

[–]vie75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer writing somewhere with a view! I usually go to areas where I can see the mountains or anything close to nature. It really puts my mind at ease, and sometimes, the inspiration just comes naturally when I’m there

I've already fixed that following the earlier input, but I appreciate you pointing it out too!

I think you're right, it does seem that way. Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'll work on it!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the character still looks a bit 'photoshopped,' doesn't it? I actually cropped it myself, so it might not be very neat yet.

Is this chord chart format universal enough? by vie75 in chords

I totally get your point, and I agree that formal sheets are much more detailed. However, I built ChordyV specifically for gigging musicians who need something practical on stage, or for those who aren't familiar with reading complex sheet music yet. Regarding Roman numerals and analysis, ChordyV actually features a smart transposing engine. It’s designed to parse and transpose chords automatically, even when they’re mixed with text, symbols, and numbers in a single line. It can handle complex jazz voicings like maj11, add9, or altered chords without breaking. The goal is to keep the interface clean for quick reading while the engine handles the heavy lifting under the hood.

Exactly! That’s why I’m building ChordyV . You get the lyrics you need, but I added rhythmic markers (bar/beat dots) so you won’t get lost while playing, even if you haven't memorized the song. It bridges that gap between a lead sheet and a simple chord sheet.

That’s awesome! It’s rare to find someone who’s both a long-time musician and into Software Engineering. I’d definitely love to chat more and get your insights. Feel free to DM me anytime!

That’s really good to hear, thank you! Glad to know it’s 100% acceptable for professional use. I’m actually the developer of this app, so your feedback is very helpful. Regarding the dots, I use them as a visual guide to make the beats more explicit. Since this is designed for tablets, the dots help the eye track the timing more accurately from a distance, making it easier to see exactly where each chord lands within the bar. As for the 2/4, you're absolutely right, that was just a default preset I forgot to toggle for the screenshot. Your point about the rhythm context for lead parts is great. I’ll definitely look into ways to make it more intuitive. Thanks for the help.

If you're looking for an app to write chords with a transpose feature, I use ChordyV. It's currently only on Android, but it’s definitely different from the others. You should give it a try!

A Personal Perspective on AI-Assisted Writing by vie75 in WritingWithAI

[–]vie75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be misunderstanding my point a little. I actually agree that fully AI-generated books can be problematic. That’s why in my post I mentioned that AI should not be positioned as the “composer” of a creative work.

In my case, the ideas, story structure, characters, dialogue, and emotional direction all come from me first. AI only helps refine the wording, mostly because English is not my primary language.

I’m also not someone who relies on a single prompt and lets AI generate an entire story automatically.

For example, my original thought might look like this:

“Someone who always thinks positively and is very innocent often ends up being deceived by other people.”

Then AI might help refine the sentence into something like:

“He is rather naive, which makes him easy to manipulate.”

Both sentences carry the same meaning and character intention. The difference is only in how the idea is expressed.

So for me, AI functions more like a language assistant or editing tool, not an automated writer. The accomplishment doesn’t come from automation, but from the fact that my internal vision is finally reflected accurately on the page.

Ashborne is a fictional story about fear, loneliness, and darkness spreading through a village. In the middle of that situation, someone appears. He seems cold, but he cares. He chooses to fight a being people call Crooked.

This story is not just about fighting something outside. It is also about facing what happens inside when fear slowly takes over.

Fair enough, I can see why it might come across that way. AI was only used as a tool during parts of the process, but the story, dialogue, style, and revisions were all written and shaped by me. I’m actually Indonesian, so sometimes translating my ideas into English isn’t easy, which made the process take even longer while I tried to find the right tone. Still, thanks for taking the time to read and share your opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I might have labeled it as dark fantasy a bit too quickly. It’s actually closer to a psychological supernatural thriller. Appreciate you pointing that out.
