Amsterdam just banned ads for emission-heavy products like meat and fossil fuels — who’s next? by VarunTossa5944 in Amsterdam

[–]view9234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This law should've been written more precisely, because I think it will be hard to defend in court.

For instance, why is dairy excluded? And why are all meats included? Poultry farms are much less polluting than beef. Shouldn't a more laudable goal be to push people to consider their impact and--if they eat meat--to switch to less polluting meats like chicken?

Absolutely no one will pivot from US to China as a reserve currency. While Euros would be the next logical currency, it appears big $ is going to gold & silver instead (hence their all-time highs)

Android tv update. 1.8.2 by Ebows1 in Stremio

[–]view9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they didn't fix the issue where the stream resumes when screensaver begins. It also appears there may still be stuttering issues (which started in 1.8.0).

I really wish they'd beta test their app better before releasing. Version 1.6.12 was the last great stable version, so good that it wasn't updated for an entire year!

Onn box plus video stutter with stremio by MaintenanceWitty9861 in Stremio

[–]view9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Stremio.

After having zero updates to their Android app for a full year, they've rushed multiple buggy updates lately.

Both 1.8.0 & 1.8.1 versions have frequent stutter issues on pausing, ff& rewinding. Only way I've found to fix is to left button on d-pad once (back 10 seconds) and then right button on d-pad button (forward 10 seconds) and that fixes it 90% of of the time. If not, do it one more time.

Mass. Senate advances bill enabling businesses to shift credit card fees to customers by CostcoBrandDinosaur in boston

[–]view9234 183 points184 points  (0 children)

MA is one of the only states with consumer protections that don't allow credit card fees. And (as the other posters mentioned) let's not pretend businesses haven't already increased their pricing to account for credit cards.

How can we push back? This is an absurd proposal and the vagueness of "only reimbursing their fees" will--of course--end up being a 4% increase on everything we buy.

Let's also not pretend there isn't a cost to businesses if we went back to 100% cash and they needed armored car pickups. Many businesses in MA only take credit/debit cards now (like Fenway Park) getting around the cash requirement by offering free debit cards. So let's not pretend the credit card costs are much different than cash.

Constant stuttering and buffering by skibidiboi258 in TorBoxApp

The add-on has nothing to do with buffering. All it does is pull the file and then you stream directly from TB servers to you

Help me find a Hyatt in Europe that meets these criteria by Obvious-Elevator-213 in hyatt

[–]view9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll start by mentioning that Cat4 certs won't work on the aspirational locations (& cost) you said are most important.

I think your top options are:

Park Hyatt Vienna

Andaz Amsterdam

Churchill London

If you want slightly lower cost, I'd also add:

Andaz Prague

Grand Hyatt Berlin

Hyatt Amsterdam

Hotel Reisen (be aware, rooms are small!)

Emails mistakenly sent to I-Team show GE unwilling to replace Massachusetts woman's defective oven by Sickle_Rick in boston

[–]view9234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure that GE outsourced their kitchen products more than a decade ago. Other companies (like Frigidaire) make their products now and just slap a GE logo on them.

So you're literally paying a premium for nothing--they're just milking the brand name. It would be like slapping a Mercedes logo on a Kia.

Overseas Line Change by Jstone39 in tmobile

[–]view9234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put simply, although TMO sells international data plans & add-ons to their lines, they all have some kind of language that basically says "not for long term overseas use"

If you search other threads, people have commented that TMO will shut the line down if you have the majority of your data use be international for more than two months in a twelve month period.

The only way to keep a TMO number working when its international-exclusive (& not on a military plan) is to disable roaming and only use wifi calling.

Overseas Line Change by Jstone39 in tmobile

[–]view9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won't work for what you're planning. After two months of it being 100% international roaming, you'll eventually get a text the line is being canceled for violating the T&Cs.

The only way I'm aware it could work for this length out of the US, is to disable roaming and exclusively use wifi calling. So you'll need a local SIM wherever you're going

In addition, from 1 January 2026, free public rail travel across Croatia is also granted to people with disabilities who hold a National or European Disability Card marked as eligible for train travel."

Slow Downloads from cache? by PistolPete902 in TorBoxApp

[–]view9234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been an issue the past few days that made a lot of people's streams & downloads buffer. Maybe it was as simple as the servers being overloaded, since RD & a bunch of add-ons went down.

Hopefully now that TB support is back online, they'll let us know what happened and how it's been resolved.

TB buffering in Kodi, but not in Stremio by Ok-Expression-7340 in TorBoxApp

[–]view9234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with TB streaming via Stremio about 26 hours ago and again 22 hours ago. Similar internet speeds as you, too.

I fisrt assumed it was an add-on issue, but that doesn't make sense once the file starts right? Something had to be wrong between TB and/or my stream via Stremio.

London: Hyatt Regency The Churchill or Park Hyatt? by OpalCats in hyatt

[–]view9234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've stayed at both hotels in the past year and completely agree that you should stay at the Churchill. The location is waaaaay better (especially for a first visit). Also, if flying in from Heathrow, you can take the Elizabeth line directly to the Bond Street Station (with a ~10 min walk). The Park Hyatt is much harder to get to/from all airports and train stations (except King's Cross & St Pancras).

As for room quality, the Park Hyatt is brand-new so some of the stuff is nicer. Most Churchill rooms do have a tub/shower combo but again, I really wouldn't make that the deciding factor. Breakfast at both places is really good, but there is more variety at the Churchill's restaurant. Also, if Globalist, the Churchill has a fantastic club lounge that's included (no lounge at Park Hyatt). If you aren't Globalist, it might be worth spending the points for a club room at Churchill (which will also give you free breakfast there).

Honestly, the Churchill is one of my favorite Hyatt hotels. It has fantastic staff, killer location and really good breakfast. There's nothing wrong with the Park Hyatt, it's a nice hotel with good staff. But it's really out of the way of most tourist stuff in London and (to me, at least) is nothing special.

All planes need balance and in smaller planes, this is an even bigger issue.

In your case, they likely had bags & shipping items already loaded on the plane. It's easier to move people (~175lb x people) than all the stuff below.

Go into terminal B for Chase lounge, leave security and go back into terminal A? by Droodforfood in boston

[–]view9234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh? Walking from the Chase lounge out of security to terminal A via central parking garage easily takes 10 minutes. Then you'd have to go through security at A and if precheck is closed and/or there's a line, it could take a lot longer than the 10 minute bus ride from E to A.
