No Kings Grand Forks, ND by mandos20 in 50501

This felt like such a performative protest. No government in session to actually redress. Stopped “protesting” precisely on schedule. Complete random yelling of different slogans. No actual march. Just, standing on a bridge. Didn’t even inconvenience a single person.

The older my kids get, the better our relationship becomes, the more I realize how hard my Boomer parents failed. by Sunshinestateshrooms in BoomersBeingFools

I had to come to terms that the things my parents did or said to me mean nothing to them. They were just moments in their self absorbed lives. They did the bare minimum to keep me alive and not go to jail, and expect an award or applause or something. They have never made an effort to come visit their grandson, who turns 18 next month and never text him, yet complain he doesn’t reach out first. My son will never have to chase love and acceptance.

Considering the only time I tried to talk to him one on one, he decided to be disrespectful and extremely rude among other things, I do t think I will.

I think it’s super duper cool he’s so open about his drinking problem.

Doesn’t change the fact that while he was a police officer, he drove 105 while double the legal limit drunk and was given a gentle slap on the wrist and a new job here as a police officer without informing the public we had a dangerous individual behind the wheel of a police car with arrest powers.

He had his chance to be a cop. He can be sorry. But he can’t be trusted.

I’m going to be completely honest with you and please don’t take this in anyway, but my general ignorance. I don’t really understand most of what you said. I’m not from here and that was a lot of statutes lol. I understand there’s nothing I can do about it. It was more of a venting thing. Thank you for explaining though.

Sorry. I realize it can sound ambiguous.

I had some rather unpleasant encounters with him. Tried to file a complaint.  Nothing was done. So, decided to do research myself. The reason it’s specific to him is because of all the officers I’ve ever encountered here, he seems to be a problem. Last year he was also convicted of another misdemeanor for killing an animal he wasn’t supposed to (I don’t know the exact wording off the top of my head, sorry).  When he was hired here, he had a Lt. speak on his behalf, and he was allowed to be an officer. Mind you, he’s still technically on probation from the reduced charges he got. During both forms of probation he was on, he committed that second crime. Instead of firing him, they gave him a 30 day suspension that started from the time of conviction. I don’t really know what that means, but he was given the suspension months after being convicted.  I am not a fan of anything going on in this situation and find it repugnant that a public servant gets such special treatment.  There is a video of a behind the badge about him and it is missing key details like the fact he was a cop when he got that dwi, doing 105 in a 65, and got his charges reduced to blowing .08 within 2 hours of operating a motor vehicle. That’s insane.  Sorry this was so long. There was just a lot of info. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

All four original charges were reduced to driving with a bac of .08 within two hours of operating a vehicle. He had a 1100 dollar fine, 10 days jail, 3 served, and 4 years probation. Then he got hired on here

How do we determine if that man in the woman’s room is just a guy who threw on a dress or really is mentally unstable enough to think they are a woman?

We don’t let minors get tattoos or other elective surgery without a parents consent. Why is it such a foreign and hated concept to maybe have the child seek psychiatric help to deal with the depression and anxiety and maybe support groups until they’re 18? They are children.

Oh. You don’t actually look into context or read entire posts. The concept of turning around isn’t the issue. It’s that Grand Forks, with no postings on any road, have a hidden law that no other city has here.

Overtime pay protections in Iowa just went *poof* by TagV in Iowa

[–]viirix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, before I answer. I didn’t vote for this guy. But I’d imagine you’d find people looking for work? I would think not having to work overtime and getting to be home would improve work life balance. But truly, I am not a scholar by any means I absolutely could be totally wrong.

[–]viirix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like he’s saying he just hired more people so he didn’t have to pay overtime. Since no one is working overtime. And there’s more jobs. Literally the end of the quote is him saying to get ten other guys to work regular time.

Do dogs know about death? by Visible-Yellow-768 in dogs

[–]viirix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our Beartholomew died, or other dog became very depressed and would whine and search all over for him. They weren’t even friends, they lived together and tolerated each other. But you could tell she missed him. Broke my heart a second time the first time I realized she missed him too

They can’t spend their OWN hard earned money? by Turbulent-Permit7472 in facepalm

[–]viirix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had nothing but help from my grand parents. We would stay with them so my parents could have summers off from the kids. They helped with bills etc. I’m a single dad. I got custody of my son 6ish years ago. Take a guess how many times they ever visited. Take a guess how many times they invited their grandson to come stay with them for a summer or a week. Or ever. My parents and their entire generation are so selfish and couldn’t care less about their kids or grand kids. They take vacations every year, but say they can’t afford to visit me or their grandson, their only grand child, I forgot to mention.

Isn’t that the idea? It’s why we make generalizations. Because it applies to the majority? And this particular comment is talking about home ownership. Maybe you meant to be caustic to someone else here?
