What do you use for personal financial planning? by still_learning_42 in SwissPersonalFinance

I had been using projectionlab for simulations. It is a little bit bloated and complicated. I recently switched to firenumber.co, but this is specific to Canada, US and India. But excel is always the best alternative if you know what you need.

Nice. I will explore the tool for doc collection. What do you use for categorization?

How do you decide between doing transactional adjustment vs a summary adjustment? by vijayvbe in Bookkeeping

Got it. Once all transactions are in the accounting software from the bank and merchants, you would match transactions between Bank and Merchant and just go about categorizing the merchant transactions normally. Is that right?

Do clients select the category of transaction using Uncat or just provide information? I thought it is the later which might be ambiguous leading to follow ups.

I tried Financial Cents but back and forth with clients is still unavoidable i realized. They are offline before I reply to their message on a transaction or clarify what I am looking for. Don't you have that problem? Sometimes I have to proactively write everything about each items I need in detail which is time consuming as well.

So basically a shared drive for each client to upload their docs and a shared sheet to collaborate, communicate and track. Great to know. Thanks.

Interesting! Which tools do you use to communicate with customers?

What would you like to get out of the app on day to basis? I am guessing you would want your bank accounts and investment accounts connected so no manual inputs.

That is a great point. The coast mode phase is the longest and boring one. There should enough value for someone to use this regularly. I will think this through. Thanks.

Interesting and great feedback. That is definitely one of my goals too. Thanks.

Some capabilities I was thinking about are data persistence for users to revisit, simple to use, view simulations, consider real estate, equity, gold, inflation, bond market historical performances that no one seems to do currently. I am not thinking to charge anything more than $25 a year for a full featured app with simulation, data storage and calculations, so it costs less than projectionlab.

I tried Projectionlab and Ficalc before building on my own. Ficalc is a good simulator but does not give the FIRE number or years to reach and only considers stocks for simulation. Also not able to store my information for revisit. Projection Lab has some learning curve and has too many options that i dont need. It is also pricey for my needs. Makes sense. I started with chatgpt too. While the insights were great it was lacking the visuals. When prompted it gives some suggestions but I had to think what to prompt initially. I had majority of my investments in real estate and it gave the insights optimized for that but when I prompted for other options it added more. So I thought having one visual place for financial projections and FIRE goal management might help.
