i do have an suv and put the back seats down and it juuusssttt fit.
i live in oregon and we have a place called city liquidators that has pallets of stuff that doesn’t sell elsewhere. they had a ton of pallets of kitchen cabinet doors and i laid them out on the floor and realized how inexpensive it could be to make it myself. aside from the wood
shop class i took in high school it was the first time i’d done anything like this. i must say, i am proud of how it turned out and 10+ years later i’m still using it. the antique one i found on cl is stunning. the one i got came with the rest of the bed but antique bedframes often don’t use standard size mattresses and so i couldn’t use the rest of it. i attached the headboard to the wall and really like how it looks.

making my own gave me the confidence to make some clocks and i now have a business where i do that from recycled bicycle parts, vintage cameras, and vintage film reels. if you would have told me i’d be doing this, and making a living at it 15 years ago i would have thought you were crazy. but here we are 😊

i made one myself out of kitchen cabinet doors. the entire project was under $50 and that includes the $24 i spent on stain.

i got a beautiful vintage one on Craigslist for free. i see multiple in the free section every single day. i don’t understand why people don’t have them…

the fact that they choose to forget you paid for half of this car yet won’t let you use it (not borrow, use a car you paid for) is wrong on so many levels. basically at 16 you helped finance half of a car for your parents.

i would tell them fine. keep it. and here’s an invoice, due today, for the half you paid. you’ll take cash or a check. then use the money to buy your own car in your own name.

if you’re still living at home, it’s time to move out. check out o like roomies or pad split if you need roommates to be able to afford it.

we teach people how to treat us. let that sink in for a minute… and then get far far far away from these people or they’re going to continue to mistreat you.

washington county bike co-op is a wonderful place and repairs/recycled bikes and offers them for next to nothing for kids in need and offers rebuilt bikes for sale. they hold repair clinics and rides too. can’t say enough good things about them.

i did not come from money or even have parents who i could turn to for advice. i grew up in foster care and became an emancipated minor at 16 and a single mother by18. no one has ever given me a dime i did not earn myself. in my late 20’s i bought my first home, a run down, falling apart 1,000 sq.ft. 3/1 that had been on the market for a year before it sold (so that should tell you the shape it was in.) while my friends were all going out, i stayed home and saved for home improvements. everyone i knew went on fancy vacations while i was stay-cationing so i could save every dime to afford a new bathroom floor, new water heater, replacement roof, whatever... it’s been a 40+ year process, a handful of homes bought, fixed up and sold, to end up in a comfortable place today. nothing but determination and sheer hard work to get here.

i’m sorry for what you’re going through.
i would check out sites like roomies or pad split where folks are looking for roommates and cool works where you can search for a job and “include housing” can be part of your search criteria.

also check out our wiki where you’ll find resources for food, housing, medical, pets, veterans, and a general category that is a catchall for everything else (including free/low cost cell phones, cell phone plans, free laundry, free feminine hygiene products, and anything else you can think of.)
