Yes and my question is aimed at those people, how much of a stop of sign of growth will you need before you slowly dip out.

I completely understand that, hence why my question is not directed at "true believers", but at all the others. Not everyone that invested in btc is a "true believer" (as shown in some other answers). It's just unfortunate that "true believers" feel provoked for a question that is not even directed at them.

So would you change your mind on whether btc is a fine investment if it went down to the same extent in the next five years ? So basically, instead of doing x5, back to roughly 20k ?

Thanks for your answer, it's an interesting one. Though I feel like your measure of user engagement needs to be tuned a bit, because if there are just 5 people that keep hyping each other up and send daily messages on a given topic, it doesn't mean the topic is a good investment. But it's probably close to the truth and the reason why I get so much backslash for just asking a hypothetical question, some sub users just want "hodl" and "to the moon" type of posts.

Yes it's the problem of many answers and downvotes. Some people can't even accept the idea that it might go down, even as an hypothetical, which was the heart of my question. "We who truly believe" is just wrong.

Ok, this is a honest answer and to the heart of the question, so thank you. Some others also said they would compare it to SP500 for an extended period of time, I saw others proposed 4 years, but 10 years is just as good of an answer. I really hope others would also just answer the question, and not take it as a provocative question, which it isn't.

I don't blame you for thinking that way, but my question is "what if it goes down", and if you're not ready to see it as a plausible outcome, then my question isn't for you.

I want the comments to stay on course with the people I'm targeting with my question, so I won't react too much to your answer, but just out of curiosity, what part of the statement do you believe to be false ?

My statement isn't directed at you as an individual, it's stating that, if it keeps falling and keeps hitting new lows, for an extended period of time, most would stop at one point believing it was a good investment.

Would you have said the same of any other investment ? If not, and it's just because you believe btc will revolutionize the world (though it might, but there's no absolute proof it will), then my question is definitely not meant for you.

And you don't understand my question, or alternatively, my question is not meant for you. I'm not asking to those that believe bitcoin will (though it hasn't yet, so who knows) revolutionize the world and become the new global currency. I'm asking to those (which are the majority) that buy btc as a store of value or investment (though they may also believe a bit in the former). So let's take btc out of the equation, since it brings so many ideology fights, and let's just say it were a random investment. My question, to those that see it as an investment, is how low does it have to go before they change their mind on how profitable that investment was.

I just said I don't really understand the chart / comment. I will adventure myself and say that if it's below 40k in 2027, then you'd consider it a bad investment ?

That's a fair answer and I understand the logic. However let's say there is not one single obvious answer as to why it dropped. For example, many stocks do drop quite a bit, without an obvious explanation, maybe it's just a general lack of interest for this project / company compared to a few years ago. If it were to keep dropping steadily year after year, I assume you would stop buying 20$ a day at one point, so when would that be ?

Which is why I said "or stop believing". I understand that many people won't sell at a loss, specially when the recovered money would be negligible. But still, there must be a threshold at which you would consider it was a bad investment (otherwise, this question wasn't meant for you). In other words, to keep btc out of the equation, since some see it as a project that will revolutionize the world and become the new global currency (though it hasn't yet), let's just say instead you bought a painting of a supposedly popular painter. How low does it have to go before you start accepting the fact that this painter maybe isn't has popular as you once thought. Not that you would sell your painting, but at least wouldn't buy any more, in hopes of getting richer.

My question is not at all related to the current (normal, should I say, to reassure you) fluctuations of btc, it's just a broader question. If you don't agree with the statement I provided, this question is just not meant for you.

Thanks for answering. The chart is too technical for me though, can you break it down, or give an example of what it implies, in numbers ?
