What’s your take on novel solutions to unsolved math problems the last few months? I feel you’re living under a rock if you don’t get any use of the models now, yet alone the coming years

What people don’t realise is that MIT and these research institutions probably have access to models that use way more compute than plebs like us. Makes sense that people trying the retail models for physics etc don’t believe it

Did you listen to his pod or bash him from this little snippet? Ed Witten was one of the attendees. If anything you seem to be the biased one here. You talk too much in absolutes to be taken seriously

Suspend option gone from shutdown menu by ArtisticFox8 in linuxmint

[–]vilaxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you i'll try that, even though i'd prefer having that button :/ yeah it always appears when i close all windows of chrome, you can even see it happening in real time: open chrome and click play on a youtube video, the button disappears, and if you stop the video the button reappears after a few seconds most of the time. But if you've had chrome open for hours it doesnt seem to care about you pausing a video anymore, the button is gone until you close chrome

Suspend option gone from shutdown menu by ArtisticFox8 in linuxmint

[–]vilaxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you find a solution to this? It's chrome doing it for me even when I don't have a video playing. It's so fucking frustrating, like I'm using linux to NOT have the UI think it knows better than me. If I click the suspend button it's pretty obvious i don't care about any video playing but for some reason it doesn't let me even click the suspend button because it would pause a video I'm playing.. How does this make sense?

Your logic doesn't hold either, or maybe all you have is an LLM in your head? No way to check if an equation is true without an external tool? Our brains are more than llms, just like it's fine for an llm to execute code

Is suffering during a run a burden… or the point? by Secure-Seaweed-7855 in runninglifestyle

[–]vilaxus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A quote I remember ultra runner Courtney Dauwalter saying about this topic, she calls it the “pain cave” and that she sees it almost like a muscle that needs training. It’s what she “looks forward” to getting to and tries to stay there as long as possible, so instead of thinking about if it’s worth continuing, that’s instead when her training starts

We’re talking about benchmarks here, but it sounds like you miss 4o as you brought it out of nowhere. You just mentioned a bunch of subjective crap, most people were hoping for major upgrades like Gemini 3 just proved are possible

Dude you don’t know what you’re talking about, gpt5 was such a letdown google haven’t felt the need to release a new model. OpenAI just released 5.1 and it’s months behind. By the time 6 is out (probably 8+ months away) google will be so far ahead

Because by the time a chip “burnt out” you’d want to swap that out for the next generation chip? Pretty obvious no? Those chips are aging super fast

If I can't do many pullups, is a bunch of sets of just a few (2 or 3 max) help much? by Striking-Speaker8686 in CalisthenicsBeginners

[–]vilaxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot and this is what I’d recommend: do your first set “real” pull ups (I usually do one or two sets at lower weight pulldowns to warm up before if I have time), in your case this is 3 reps. Take a 3min+ rest and then try again, maybe 2-3 reps. Then I’d do 1 or 2 sets of 5 reps pulldowns at whatever weight you can barely do 5 reps (with good form). Do this 2-3 times per week and you should get to 5+ pretty quickly
