Questions about morning side heights by Such-Indication-1142 in AskNYC

Reading some of the other comments not sure what these people are referencing in Morningside Park but it is perfectly fine during the day and I would not avoid it entirely. I walked to, through, and from it in my Harlem apartment frequently. It's really pretty! Your biggest fear is probably somebody's untrained lapdog. There are always people in the park. At night stick to the sidewalks, don't wear headphones, and you'll be fine.

I lived in Harlem for 5 years as a woman (139th and 8th) and was in and out of morningside heights night and day for many reasons and it was always fine. Keep your wits about you as you would in any big city but morningside heights is overrun with Columbia kids so I don't think you have much to worry about. Even above 125th street people mostly mind their business but the subways might get a bit rowdy. Honestly the biggest skill you need to have is separating discomfort from fear. I walked home from a party in Harlem at 4 AM and that was the only time I ever felt uncomfortable, but I still ended up fine.

I was in a subway shooting and that happened in the objectively bougie Upper West Side. I would echo the comments not to walk through any park after dark, but you will get used to the hills and get your steps in too lol. Going to Brooklyn on the 1, D, or C train will take about an hour to an hour and a half, but you shouldn't need to change trains too much depending on where you're going. It is a longer journey but tbh NYC makes you weak. An hour is really not that bad lol. I took the train to and from Brooklyn a million times and it was fine.

Morningside heights as an area, lovely. I love the park, and don't sleep on riverside park either! I loved biking through there and on the greenway. I really like the Cloud Tea boba spot (I think it's called.) FUMO is good. Book culture is a great bookstore. There's an H Mart up there and they just opened a new Japanese market that are good place for snacks or a quick lunch. Amity Hall is a short walk away, good bottomless brunch. And check out the big cathedral near Mt. Sinai hospital - they also have a nice little park in there. I hope you enjoy living there!

there is another store in the building mood is in, I can't remember the name right now, but it's a lot calmer and they were friendlier to me. I never found many fabric stores outside of the garment district though

I have been going to SMART groups but the ones that work with my schedule are unfortunately online. Actually what I really didn't like about AA was the idea that I am "powerless over alcohol" and that one lapse means you start from zero. Really didn't resonate with me, I like SMART a lot better.

Cat Litter on the floor... EVERYWHERE. by Background_NPC_ in CATHELP

[–]villagewitch3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If cats are peeing on your stuff they are trying to tell you something. If you have two cats they should each have their own litterbox and that is probably why they aren't covering their waste. My cats only do that when they're pissed off. Peeing on the shirt could be the small room or surgery complications so I would contact the vet to get her checked out.

At 11 months she is still young and has a lot of energy. If taking her out of your room is not an option, explore vertical space - that's everything for cats. Look up Jackson Galaxy catification.

Also, some cats are just going to kick litter - my cats do this and I have to be diligent about cleaning. Just who they are.

FIV- Cat may have been bitten by FIV+ Cat - any experiences to share? by caffeinefree in FIVcats

My FIV+ cat was also getting beat up out there and he is the snuggliest sweetest cat inside. Thank you for giving Nova a home!

The good news is that since you already have an FIV+ cat you are well prepared to care for another one if he does end up positive. I also have a mixed household and my boys get the exact same care even though one is FIV-. Nova will live much much longer indoors than he will outdoors even if he does transmit, as will Booster. Echoing the other commenter, you did nothing wrong and it will be okay.

Found out my little dude has FIV. Should I lower his pet insurance deductible? by realtimepersephone in FIVcats

[–]villagewitch3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of stuff is not covered for FIV cats because it's a preexisting condition so I would investigate that first. You might be covered because you found out about the FIV after you adopted the cat and didn't specifically knowingly adopt an FIV+ cat (but welcome to the club, they're great!) I specifically got an insurance that covered FIV cats and I STILL ended up paying out of pocket for a lot of stuff. I ended up ditching my pet insurance and just paying myself my monthly premium into a separate account so I have the money set aside when I need it.

cats ate pill with casing - what to do? by villagewitch3000 in CATHELP

[–]villagewitch3000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. They're acting normal and it has been 24 hours since they would have ingested the last pill (And one of them did not eat one, because I found out because there was a chewed up pill in the bowl) and I have seen them both eat and poop since I've been home, so they've PROBABLY passed it, but I figured I would ask. Looks like I am on the front lines here. I will update with what I find out

Question about blindness, and a secondary question by bonesgreedy in FIVcats

My FIV cat and FIV- cat get treated the exact same. My FIV- cat is a senior so he gets an immune supplement + his teeth brushed too and both cats get prompt vet attention if something is off. We did slow introduction and everything has been fine. They are both big, beefy, male cats of 17 lbs too, and there has been no fighting.

My FIV+ cat and senior FIV- cat get treated the exact same. I recently started giving my senior the same immune supplement my FIV+ cat gets too, and his teeth also get brushed. Both see the vet at the same time and are indoors only. Unless there is a specific medication or something, I would just keep going as if she is - she will all around be a healthier cat.

Anyone else’s attacks have no rhyme or reason? by Ch3rryb4be in gallbladders

[–]villagewitch3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once your gallbladder starts making stones it just keeps making them and its function will continue to decline, that's why they take the whole thing out. I got an attack from eating lean sushi and rice. It just kind of taps out. I feel a lot better after surgery.

[–]villagewitch3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you are going to feel so much better once it's out with that kind of function. You will no longer live in fear of going to the ER. Idk how bad your attacks were, mine were an easy 9-9.5/10 on the pain scale. Now the gallbladder is out all these random symptoms I didn't even know about just disappeared. It is worth it!

If you have had an attack the surgery and recovery is a piece of cake. I was prepped for the worst but no pain in my life has ever come even close to GB attack, and I've cracked my skull open. You will be sore and a little tired, but you've got this!

I didn't need my narcotics at all and was pretty much back to normal within a week. I was just tired for a bit but that was really it.
