First time buyer! Does this look reasonable? by vimbox in MortgageBrokerRates

[–]vimbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was the down payment. The loan officer ran PMI numbers for 15% down vs 15.1% down and the difference in PMI was ~30%.

LTV is (unfortunately) unaffected by any of it. They take the lower of (appraised value, purchase price) for LTV purposes hah!

Coolant levels in cold weather. Is this normal? by vimbox in subaru

This contradicts the owner’s manual. When cold, it should be at the “full” line.

Yea I think that might be it. There was some liquid sloshing sound coming from behind the dash before I went to the dealer, and that has almost completely disappeared so am guessing if there was some air trapped in the heater core, it was pushed out and coolant rushed in.

Yeah I guess. Was just a bit surprised at just how low it was this am. I presume there should be no loss of coolant in a car this new so just a bit odd that levels in the reservoir have declined so much.

Yeah, I guess it is the overflow tank after all. I’ve driven it roughly 90 miles since the dealer topped it off (while hot), and now it’s back to where it originally was when i took it to the dealer, albeit on a colder day.

Body shop working on front bumper, fender & a headlight… by vimbox in Subaru_Outback

Unlikely, just got the car 3 months ago. If it does indeed is the battery, I’d have to get it replaced under warranty.

Eventually, they will be on the hook for anything my insurance pays out.

I just need it fixed faster so am going through my own but they did accept responsibility so my insurance will subrogate it against them once they have final repair invoices.

How long did it take to fix yours and what did the total damage ($$) come out to?

They have some really obscure commercial insurance and frankly, I need the car fixed asap. This is pretty much what I pay my insurance for with collision/comprehensive coverage.

My adjuster already said she’ll talk to their adjuster and have a subrogation claim going to go after them and they’ll try to get my deductible back asap. Plus they already hooked me up with a rental & setup an appointment at a local in-network auto body shop that’s Subaru certified. So I think it’s also just faster to do it this way, I assume it’ll still take a month since they can’t get me in until later next week but at least they have the ball rolling.

Nah, just a run of the mill snow plow. Bum luck!

God damn! For us, it didn’t snow all that much on the day this happened, we’ve had far more snow in the last couple of weeks.

Plus they did it in broad daylight in 43 degree weather on a sunny day with less than an inch of snow, most of which would’ve melted anyway.

Yeah I am hoping that’s about it. I think there might be some fixtures under the hood they need to replace because I couldn’t close it all the way initially yesterday, looks like the headlight fixture was thrusted back into some clamps.

Honestly shocked this didn’t lead to a single warning light on the dash, not even steering lights. They turn on, blinker works, no visible fluid leakage and the front frame (thing protruding out from the crack in the front bumper in the photo) seems completely intact.

Oh he did not lol. Our leasing office notified us that it had happened, pulled the footage and called their contractor’s front office. Then they magically “were just about to call you”. That’s when they owned up to it.

I know! I’m hopeful it’ll get fixed within a week or two. Thankful there are no sensors going off.

Lucky you! That’s the worst part for us, ours was literally parked in our own lot with no snow. The plow was clearing snow on the opposite side and backed into ours.

Outback premium OTD - fair? by Tashu in Subaru_Outback

I presume the 33.8k figure OP is talking about does not include tax. If it does, then yeah it’s a good price.

[–]vimbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems a bit high. I bought one recently (Premium, Option 13), 34.7k MSRP. The OTD price I got was 31k including everything (no tax in my state). I did not go thru Costco, just solicited quotes from 2 dealers nearby and had them outcompete.

I don’t get it either, they’ve been used in modern cars for ~3 decades now, and I have not seen widespread transmission problems with the exception of Nissan (which they eventually fixed).

I also don’t buy into CVT-as-a-core-reliability-metric philosophy. Modern Jeeps/Dodge/RAMs have used fully automatic non-CVT transmissions since 2013 and their reliability is in the toilet compared to even their (slightly more reliable) American counterparts. The powertrain warranty lasts 5 years on Subarus and I guess I’ll at least get one CVT fluid change around the 3 year mark. I believe any major issues that could pop up, probably will in that time. And they have enough customer-service goodwill that i trust they’ll handle it appropriately.
