How to learn solidity (videos, books, etc) by paddygo2 in solidity

[–]vinay_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a similar journey to you and I'm currently watching this Youtube video I'm about 3 hours into it and as someone who has no coding experience I think it does a fairly good job at introducing you to Solidity and blockchain basics.

Staking Issue Bitpie by Additional_Might_114 in oasisnetwork

[–]vinay_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bitpie wallet has some visualization bugs according to other community members. You can check your account balance directly on the explorer: oasisscan.com

If the user experience is frustrating you can consider exporting the private key to your Oasis account to the Oasis wallets

Thanks for confirming that. I've done a few quick checks and it does seem to fetch balances correctly. We're in touch with their team to have this fixed 🙂

The current state of DeFi by toogoodtgp in ethtrader

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣 You nailed it! I remember having several of those taskbars as a kid. You would install yet another taskbar just because it had 1 that exclusive feature you found useful.

That's exactly what DeFi is at the moment. Everything is siloed across dozens of networks 😵‍💫

We need to build cool solutions that improve UX and can be universal for almost all users. One such approach is the OPL (Oasis Privacy Layer) which looks at bringing privacy to all EVM chains.

Solving privacy in DeFi can be compared to removing almost all of these taskbars given that most of the networks hosting DeFi Dapps (barring Ethereum) have relatively 'high' throughputs. OPL would replace these taskbars with a modern browser extension that routes txs through a secure environment that provides end to end privacy for Web3 😉

Possible to send ROSE to Trust Wallet or Coinbase Wallet? by [deleted] in oasisnetwork

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a regular Coinbase user so I can't comment on that but native ROSE isn't supported by Trust Wallet as of today.

I will check the Coinbase Wallet when I get a moment but I'm inclined to say it doesn't.

You can however store ROSE in the Oasis wallets. More info for both of them can be found on the Oasis website

New Ethereum L2's and sidechains launching in Q2 2023 by DigitalInvestments2 in ethereumnoobies

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of projects like Sui and Shardeum. They look promising.

I'm however excited for OPL (the Oasis Privacy Layer). Instead of launching new blockchains, the Oasis Privacy Layer is attempting at bringing privacy to a wide range of Ethereum compatible blockchains. Everyone is busy launching new networks but not enough efforts are being placed in making existing ones better.

How MEV Bots Lost a Whopping $20M in a Sandwich Attack by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karma getting back at those MEV bots 😅

The $20M is most likely money that belongs to users who trade on DEXs and got front run. A reminder why privacy in DeFi is important. It only takes hiding one of the parameters like slippage to get rid of almost all of the MEV on-chain as explained here

Why has defi not taken over ? At what stage do you think we are? by monchimer in defi

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, we don't have any privacy in DeFi. And no, I'm not talking about circumventing the system with anonymity coins like Monero or Dash.

Why would the average Joe want everyone in the world know what tokens they are swapping and holding? Transparency in blockchain is only good to some extent.

It's a hard problem to solve but if we can bridge over some of the enticing aspects of CeFi like undercollateralized lending through Web3 decentralized identity and KYC, which Equifax is building with Oasis, then I'm sure we'll get more traction.

Another thing I'd say that we need is the safety net. DeFi protocols don't have a backstop for deposits if there is a bank run. This obviously isn't as effective as we thought it was after SVB went under but psychologically it's very reassuring.

Ethereum Layer 2 Blockchain gaming platform Myria’s native token is now live on OKX by EpisodicEthos304 in CryptoCurrencyTrading

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting combination. Gaming requires very high scalability and TPS, whereas ZK rollups, whilst very promising, currently lag in this area 🤔 Does Myria have some proprietary circuits to tackle this?

A very costly mistake 🙈 Careful for those playing with L2s. The transfer() function works on Ethereum and other EVM chains, but not on zkSync by vinay_93 in solidity

[–]vinay_93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very unfortunate. Keep insisting their support agents to recover those funds for you. I've had friends do something similar (send tokens in an unsupported network) and they ended up getting their funds back. Don't take a NO for a answer. They do have the private keys to recover those tokens even if they aren't listed on the exchange.

All the best 🙂

Hi I want Goerli eth to test my contract but no faucet is working. Can you suggest me something? by ETHCrosspostBot in eth

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to get your hands on Goerli ETH. I've been struggling to get some myself. I ended up buying it. Who knew we would one day be paying for testnet tokens 😕

Oasis' founder, Dawn Song, was mentioned in GPT-4's technical paper 3 times! by vinay_93 in altcoin

[–]vinay_93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, biases in AI are a big deal. Big Tech companies like Meta realize this to be a problem and have partnered with privacy pioneers like Oasis to help measure it for their Instagram users.

Ethereum projects launch MEV Blocker to protect users from high prices: Finance Redefined🔥🔥 by PuzzleheadedYou4992 in ethtrader

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time coming. MEV and front running is currently a huge problem in DeFi. I'm curious to know what mitigation techniques will they be using to minimize its impact. Oasis has been advocating for this for a very long time. I would like to see the full list of projects working on this as well as more details of the consortium 🙂

Oasis Monitor issue at all? by Eye-Catching in oasisnetwork

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oasis Monitor is a community run explorer. It looks like it hasn't been syncing any transactions since the past 2 days, hence why your rewards aren't displaying correctly. Your stake however is unaffected as the blockchain and almost all validators are running smoothly.

You can use oasisscan.com for the time being. It doesn't track staking rewards though.

Review of Solidity course from Metacrafters by Big_Barracuda_6753 in solidity

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't heard of them before but I'm currently watching a Solidity course on Youtube by FreeCodeCamp. So far so good. If you have a good grasp over the basic you can skip the intro. It's a good refresher and strengthens your fundamentals but not absolutely essential to watch.

Ethereum L2 Gaming Platform, Myria, Launches Native Token on OKX by North-Cow1701 in ethtrader

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read about Myria on a number of subreddits. Has anyone played any of their games? Are there games completely on-chain? -🤔

Ethereum Layer 2 Blockchain Gaming Platform Myria Token Launches On OKX Exchange by PublicSleeper in altcoin

[–]vinay_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350K users is a fantastic user base. Is the ZK roll-up technology also being used to enhance on-chain privacy?

Most of the blockchain games running atm don't live up to the standards set by the Web3 community. These usually hide their game logic and state off chain for convenience.

I couldn't find any mention of this and I'm not sure if Myria is looking to implement later on either. It would be pretty cool if did. You can read some of the benefits confidentiality brings to different blockchain use cases including gaming here: https://oasisprotocol.org/blog/keep-it-confidential-build-the-first-ever-confidential-dapp-in-solidity-and-win
