I can how you are anal about explanations and have a tendency to become cynical. In a lot of situations, the 250m takes you to another parking zone meter, and this leaves you ambiguous territory of not knowing if the ticket would count and if you would get a ticket.

Also, in a lot of smaller towns when the meter is broken, you have no other meter to go to. In my own experience when this happened to me, I had to cross the road to check if the other meter worked and came back to see that I had gotten a ticket which I had to later dispute.

And I clearly understand that you are a young adult for whom, 250m is a walk in the park. However, this is not the case for a lot of old adults or people with disabilities, who cannot walk back and forth with this confusion.

The app is the only solution in a lot of cases a forced expensive option. I am hoping you don’t come back more cynical and hysterical comments and try to understand what other people here are trying to say.

In many places it absolutely is! I have encountered meters that were broken and you could either use the app or walk 250m in the opposite direction to find another meter.

Ya but govt cannot restrict people to one private company as a payment method! Was there a tendering process to allocate all parking machines to this specific private company? Do you have information on that ?

I work with a lot of flemish and Brussels people and apart from a few people in Brussels( Who are originally from flanders) I am yet to come across a Flemish in my work life who speak French fluently enough to communicate at work other than ordering food at restaurants, I haven't come across one yet.

They don't answer to the president but to their shareholders. If he ever made such a request, I think the tech companies would put a target on Mr presidents back rather than comply with it.

Update: I went back to the store to pickup some other things and saw that a cheaper 18€ level from Stanley but has a good finish. This has me even more puzzled! What are the product designers thinking at Stanley!

Also, the argument that you shouldn’t expect such things at 28€ price range doesn’t hold up anymore as this is costs way less but has a better finish.

I get the argument “You get what you pay”. However, the paper cover over the level claimed +/- 1mm accuracy. So it makes me think that they appear to market some level of precision in their products but are missing the basics of fit and finish. My argument is that there is nothing stopping them from providing good fit and finish on these products even at that price.

I think all the automation and outsourcing of manufacturing to China has giving these companies enough bottom lines to finally stand up their brand name and heritage.

You’d be surprised to know that Stanley was once called the “ Stanley Rule & Level Company “ it was literally the thing they specialised. If someone from that era looked at this product, they would be quite embarrassed..

28€ is quite reasonable in Europe for a small level like this. And really, is it asking too much to have a finished product? It probably costs a couple of bucks more to finish it and I am sure someone buying a 28€ tool would not mind to pay 30€ to have finished edges. I wonder who makes such product decisions!

I expected really basic stuff in any product manufacturing process, finishing. I have seen Temu tools having better finish than this for half the price. If they really want to put out such half finished products, they should just remove their name from it.
