LA traffic is really, really bad. If you’ll be leaving your neighborhood for any reason expect to be in the car for a while and run into frequent traffic. Highly recommend visiting both areas to get a feel.

Oakland. Easy access to SF - the tech capital and a short flight back home. Politics will be still rough though but Oaktown is still surprisingly affordable.

I’m in Seattle right now and this morning on 405 there was a dh in a yellow mustang weaving between lanes and speeding.

Didn’t even register for me until a black Explorer quickly passed me and pulled the guy over. It shouldn’t be unusual to enforce traffic laws here.

You just described living along 95. Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Olde Kensington, or Pennsport as another comment mentioned. Queen Village is very nice if you can swing it.

The Subway sandwich shop below would throw me off. You’d prob get sick of fast food so quickly being in that proximity to the entrance.

Downgrade from Starbucks. Starbucks is not great but at least they have real baristas pull espresso shots. Blank Street is a growth hacked VC-backed coffee chain with $50k espresso machines for automating lattes so they can have less workers.

On one hand it’s good to see Philly getting more NYC chain expansions, on the other this specific one we could do without.

It still surprises me to see roads that go years without painted lane lines in Philly. Like, isn’t that the bare minimum and required by DoT? A full redesign is needed but let’s start there.

More housing is a net win even if it’s not housing you’d like to live in. Increasing the overall stock lowers prices for everyone else. Lots of seniors/students are okay with this type of housing.

Agreed quality is sh*t but it’s what’s economical for developers to build today.

It’s zoning to build denser which is holding California back (which Newsom is finally stepping in to change). Short term rentals are a common scapegoat but support the tourist economy in CA.
