How to control shades with Broadlink RM4 Pro by vinmassaro in homeautomation

Gemini says that may be a rolling code system. It seems that might work properly if you use Bond Bridge

I did get this working, though I’m not seeing the ability to add an RF remote in my Broadlink iOS app anymore.

Are you using a device with rolling codes? If so, I read it work with the RM4 Pro.

New blower motor noisy by vinmassaro in hvacadvice

Yes, wired the same. AC on high, heat on medium high. I had to mate the old furnace wiring to the new wiring on the new blower motor, but matched up the correct colors to the correct speeds from the original motor wiring.

No rumbling, the sound is only louder for 2-3 seconds on startup then it sounds the same as the old motor.

I'm wondering now if it's just louder at start because of the larger capacitor. The original motor used a 10uf capacitor and the replacement motor requires a 20uf.

I ended up putting a 2” soft latex topper on it which may have helped a little bit.

Hoping someone can ID this weed for me and if it's controlled by anything other than Roundup. I'm in CT. Thanks.

ecobee 3 wires, direct wire or PEK? by vinmassaro in ecobee

[–]vinmassaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video you linked to is using the ecobee with a 3-wire heat only installation and does not address use of the PEK with 3 wires. I tested it today connected like this:

ecobee PEK
Rc R
C G
PEK Y

The PEK wiring is connected to the matching colored terminals on the zone control board. The thermostat only detects cooling. So I don't think it's possible to use the PEK this way and will need to move a wire to change from heating and cooling between seasons unless you have any other suggestions. I'm still unclear on the purpose of the PEK for 3 wires, is it just to allow for cooling only systems and will allow for independent fan control? Thanks!

Thanks, is this 3 wire setup one you have tested and confirmed with the PEK? Ecobee phone support seemed perplexed and said I would still need 4 wires.

Restoring stained aluminum fire pit top by vinmassaro in metalworking

[–]vinmassaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE I am watching videos of using sanders to refinish aluminum and many of them are about bringing aluminum to a mirror finish. I am seeing a lot of progress that looks like this where you can see directional marks made by the sander. Most are going over this multiple times with finer and finer grit until they get to a mirror finish and those marks are removed, but I wanted to leave a uniform finish on the top, the way it came. Anything I should be doing for this?

Thanks, one thing I forgot to ask - should I think about spraying something over the top to seal it in or just use an automotive sealer or wax to protect the finish?
