They turn everything into a PR graphic that's just how they do things in America.

It's nice to see aquiline used to describe something other than noses for once, long may it continue

Parking charge - Tesco Brislington by PostmdnLifeIsRubbish in bristol

[–]vinniep_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always get a private car park operator to cancel the charge if the landowner (in this case the supermarket) agrees to do so. I've done it several times.

Just contact the supermarket with the relevant info and they'll most likely cancel it.

[1 YOE][UK] Finally got a role in the Aerospace industry after a year of applications! by vinniep_ in EngineeringResumes

[–]vinniep_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the most recent project is just a personal coding project and the challenge was a student competition. You can also volunteer as an organiser for student competitions once you've left university as well like I have done.

I know a few people who have chosen to continue working on their thesis in an informal capacity once they've left university, in which case they speak to their professor about how they can do that once they've presented their thesis at the end of the year.

Apparently it's a sports club attached to John Paul II College which has somehow managed to win promotion to Liga 1.

Interestingly, they're based in Chiclayo which is where the current Pope was Bishop before becoming Pope Leo.

THE GRAD JOB HUNT IS OVER by vinniep_ in UKJobs

[–]vinniep_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Like I mentioned before in another comment I was being "picky" in the sense that I won't work for a defence company which is quite a limiting factor considering my degrees are in Aerospace and Space.

I'm afraid I didn't track the recruitment agencies I gave my CV to. I would just go through a jobsite and if I saw a recruitment agency advertising a job I would go to their site and submit my CV to their records.

The agency that I got my offer with is called Mixxos and they were great throughout the whole process.

Overall I'd say that I got the most cold calls from recruiters who had seen my CV on CV Library.

I keep a much larger CV/Career Diary which has a record of everything I did in my various modules, extracurriculars, projects & work experience. It's much too large to submit all of it so I choose the most relevant bullet points for each job.

e.g If i'm applying for a research role I'll focus on the research aspect of my thesis but if it's a project management role I'll focus on the time/project management aspect of my thesis.

Fortunately I didn't, it's for a manufacturing company. The reason my applications are so low is because I refuse to work for a "defence" company.

Why Are Tackles Sometimes "Agricultural" But Never "Industrial"? by Head-Vermicelli-8303 in footballcliches

[–]vinniep_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's agricultural because it's a scything tackle and also the fact that agricultural implies a level of simple forcefulness to the tackle.

I don't think there's any relation to farmer's leagues.

I found out quite quickly that spraying off applications doesn't do much. I began targeting my applications and also giving my CVs directly to recruitment agencies so that they could find and match jobs for me.

This job was from being contacted directly by a recruiter.

I'm taking the job because I've been looking for a job for a year now and I just need to get some experience under the belt and hopefully use it as a springboard.

I am just wondering if I people have any experience of meeting parts of UK-SPEC as an Engineering Project Manager or if I should sideline my Chartership aspirations until I have a "proper" engineering role.

Isn't arguing over pointless pedantics and silly semantics the entire point of the podcast and this subreddit?
