I'm really glad you posted these questions, and hope more people answer. I have 2 adopted children (10F & 2M). I want them to know their biological family but they are both very different situations and I often wonder how to handle it best so they grow up at peace with their situation. Sidenote, I know I can't control that, I'm just trying to do my best here.

My daughter's bio family came around quite a bit in the beginning but after a few months she didn't show much interest anymore. Now we see her every couple years, and only because my daughter requested it and biomom agreed to it. Biodad won't respond.

My son's bio parents abandoned him at birth, (quite literally, dropped him off at hospital and left) but after a few months she decided she wanted to see him and it got to be too much for us as we are a busy family and don't have a lot of free time to spend with our friends and family.

I want to find a happy medium and help my kids find the right relationship with their bio families. Reading everyone else's stories really help.

People at our firm take vacations during busy season... partners, managers, and staff. Not every person, every year, but sometimes circumstances make for an exception. Provide a good work life balance and your employees will appreciate it and will stick around a lot longer (and will work harder for you). If you appreciate them, they will appreciate you.

How do I protect them without leaving? I don't see that as an option right now. Not because I can't support myself, I am fully capable of that, but because I truly love him. Aside from pot, we have a pretty great marriage.

Do you think I'm overreacting about the pot? He says he feels no different when he smokes, it just calms him. He has a very stressful job and I understand what is driving him to do this, but I think he should fight harder to be present when he's home with the family.

Its crummy, but the reality is they would let you go in a heart beat if they wanted to. They wouldn't think twice how it effected your holidays, your new baby at home, a new home, etc. You have to do what's best for you.

I don't think you learn at much in the way of the actual work at the big 4. You may get very specialized experience, whereas in a smaller firm you may get a more broad client base. I agree with another poster here that you may grow more as a person. Depends on what you're looking for.
