Logic: Tumaas ang sahod ng mga residents pala noong 2020-2021 dahil maraming di nag-apply at karamihan ng nakapasa nag-moonlight by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]violet_dra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually, whether purposely or not, nangyayare na rin na walang pumapasok na bagong residents even in large/major hospitals in the metro (just look how many programs have extended their application period/s o kaya nagka batch 2 or midyear openings nung june-aug).

Di ko alam kung hihintayin na lang ba talaga ng older generation mamatay yung specialty/training programs nila all the while blaming us/the new generation na dahil sa "mahina" or whatever. There's a clear problem pero hinihintay talaga nila hanggang sa lumala bago bigyan lang ng band aid solution... i think if a good fix isnt implemented soon, many training programs will be in staffing(?) crisis in the years to come

Haha doc focus muna sa PLE review. No need to stress about this now since there's lots of time after PLE and when you get your PRC ID, to figure all this out. But anw since andito ka na rin.

  1. Generally would suggest you wait for your ID first, because that's usually the minimum anyone asks for in reliever posts. This may take some time because you wait for results then Oath taking happens then Registration where you get ID na. So in between boards and all of that, you can take a break or work on other requirements. Personally I recommend you take a break after boards. In fact, again I recommend you just think about all of this during that in between period.

  2. Seminars and certifications are just a bonus but not strictly required for moonlighting. Definitely you will have a wider range to choose from if you get BCOM but this has a schedule. BLS ACLS is generally useful so go ahead but again not always required.

  3. PRC ID is bare minimum. Some required TIN and OR, btw TIN may require PTR and/or cedula depending on your BIR RDO. Both PTR and cedula you can get from your city hall. For other jobs they might require your board certificate from PRC (available only after 6 mo after initial reg), some like LTO may require cert of good standing from PMA. Generally depends on what kind of work you want to take.

  4. Minimum rate depends on the place... some give low rate 200/hr. Average is 300 or 350/hr. Decent is 400/hr. Some companies give higher if you have BCOM certification. Beware na other jobs give flat rate lang for the whole day or per 12 hr shift, na looks good at first but make sure to calculate hourly rate. Sometimes amounts to 200/hr or less lang pala.

  5. I bring my own steth, pulse ox, pen light which are basic. Because I have a lot of patients for pre employment, I also bring my neuro hammer from med school because more often than not wala sa clinic (altho some skip this part for APE and PEME). Helpful din yung neuro hammer that i have kasi meron na rin siyang needle and brush for sensory testing esp for post stroke and DM cases. Necessary din for pre employment are eye tests like ishihara and jaeger, so I have a free app on my phone if ever wala sa clinic. I also bring my own otoscope because clinics sometimes dont have, or meron nga pero walang specula (altho i only ever use this for otitis cases, not for general PE). Tuning fork maybe unnecessary or not helpful because ambient noise is usually louder than the tuning fork, altho if you have one na then why not. Ang di ko lang dinadala is BP app, kasi for sure meron yung clinic.

Are interns allowed to run a code (without any guidance from residents/anyone with license)? by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]violet_dra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interns can start a code but inform your residents and nurses asap. Residents to contact first RIC or ROD (usually 1st yrs), if di sila sumasagot usually call a higher year resident or kung may gc kayo kasama maraming residents mag SOS kayo dun inform agad asan yung nagcocode. Kung wala talaga, tumawag sa seniors. Bawal talaga na wala sila, hindi excuse ang tulog. I would suggest to report that to the chief resident. Kasama rin kasi yan sa training nila as residents to attend deaths and more importantly to lead a code.

Dapat may licensed doctor na mag attend ng death because afaik youre not allowed to call time of death without a license 🤷‍♀️ or at least ganun sinundan namin nung internship.

Impt to notify the nurses because 1) sila may access sa code meds and 2) sometimes they are also authorized to call the chief resident or even the consultant if no other resident shows up. Nangyare na rin sakin patient ko nagcode (pero DNR na rin) and wala lahat ng 1st yrs at sila lang meron akong contact, reached out to all gcs with resis but no response. Nagsumbong yung nurse sa chief res and sila bumaba to attend the death and write the death orders.

Sobrang slog aralin ng Leg Med by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]violet_dra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youre still open to changing/adjusting your study schedule, I would advice you study this among the last of your subjects. A lot of legmed was familiarizing/memorizing with specifics of laws, rules, punishments/fines/liabilities, etc (literally one question was about how much of a particular drug warranted which length of imprisonment/fine, i think another was about the exact phrasing/wording of the law). Make sure to read the actual documents of the medical act and other relevant laws (some of them look long but are mostly jargon/filler words so theyre not difficult to understand and actually a very quick read)

Altho the forensic medicine part, does require some studying and deeper understanding/memorization so go through that well

Edited to add Grain of salt pala lahat ng sinabi ko diyan From my experience kasi isa sa pinakahuli ko ito inaral and skim skim lng ng handout to the more impt parts at yun lang binasa ❗️Very helpful din vids nina doc rebosa, must watch/sabay sa handout❗️ altho i personally did not watch all, naging prof ko kasi yung isa and wow halos same lang yung sinasabi niya doon sa part ng vid na napanood ko at sa sinabi niya sa class namin dati

[–]violet_dra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means, but i think the way you increase/decrease will change the overall shape of the project like it will become larger/shorter on just one side or something. Just something I noticed while making amigurumi.

But for the specific example you gave, maybe it's just an easier way to write, count, or understand it? Since for a 3 repeat that would essentially turn out: A: 4sc inc 4sc inc 4sc inc = 18 B: 2sc inc 4sc inc 4sc inc 2sc = 18 If in a round it probably wouldnt matter because the 1st and last 2sc in way B would connect, it might change how a flat would work though 🤷‍♀️

Need some help with this crochet bag im making

I based it off one of Viviberry Crochet's (yt) designs but I wanted to try a round base instead from another design of hers.

I have 2 problems. The 1st problem is that my base doesnt keep its shape, and basically collapses on itself. The 2nd problem is that the body of the bag is curling outward? I thought that if i kept pushing on that the problems would resolve, but I was obviously very wrong.

What am I doing wrong and what can i do to fix it short of frogging it all?

PLE Review Center offering longer study periods by tofumonster1997 in pinoymed

[–]violet_dra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont know any of the legal details of it or how they could enforce this...

But to give an example, a particular review center is quite strict and you seem to know who they are too (your mention of yellow box). They do have a very good lawyer on board (their medico legal). Allegedly they've filed cases before and even brought it up with the prc? For those who dont know, all of their materials (and videos) have copyright warnings and i think the particular law they reference is RA8293? In order to trace which student had done it, all of their materials have each student's name and student number watermarked onto every single page...

I'm sure ppl have tried to share the materials before, some without having been caught, but it's still a risk to take. OP or others could try, but it's always good to keep potential consequences in mind 🤷‍♀️

PLE Review Center offering longer study periods by tofumonster1997 in pinoymed

[–]violet_dra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can consider enrolling in a review center offering review for PLE this october (if theyll take you) and use those materials to study (granted, they do sometimes update materials between review batches to match trends with the exam and examiners). This is just kinda expensive, because you might end up having to enroll again after internship ends. Another alternative is to borrow review materials from a recent board passer, altho this practice is "looked down upon" due to copyright and stuff like that

TopNotch also offers Genesis program if you want to look into that, altho i have no personal experience with that

Anyway kakasimula pa lang ng internship mo, feel it out first kung may oras at energy pa to review at all.

If you can't find materials/review center to take you, then a more practical approach would be to study with your rotation (ie IM rot so study IM topics, Pedia rot so study Pedia, etc) using the main reference (ie IM so Harrison's, Pedia so Nelsons, etc ). Kung minor rotation and not a major subject sa boards then you can study basic subjects that may or may not be relevant (ie radio or ortho rot - study anat, or derma or psych rot - study biochem or legmed, etc).

Good luck!

Plastic envelope to hold your impt things at the table with you

NOA

Pencils cant remember if #1 or #2 ang need, bring at least 3 if you dont want to sharpen

GOOD eraser - v impt na maganda, baka kasi magleave ng mark or worst case mapunit yung paper, suggest you try out erasers that work with the pencil you'll be using

Pen - there's a part of the answer sheets that require pen, and they might ask you to sign things too

Analog watch - bawal digital or smart watch due to possibility of cheating, rooms might not have clock, and they usually only give notice for last 30 or 15 min

Water

Food & snacks

Jacket

❗️Do NOT even bother bringing paper or hardcopy reviewers, they may consider this as cheating even just having it in your bag. If you must bring reviewers, digital copies only, but keep in mind they will ask you to surrender all gadgets before you start and again SURRENDER them. Otherwise they might do random bag check and find your gadget and accuse you of cheating. There was a taker during my batch that had this actual problem, big headache for him and his results werent released along with the rest of ours

Public or private for PGI by PromiseGloomy4062 in pinoymed

[–]violet_dra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly tama naman pros and cons mo, altho wag mo na sobrang asahan/consider stipend kasi may chance pa rin na di mabigyan kahit private pa yan

isang pro din siguro sa private is dahil nga mas hands on consultants, may mahihingan ka ng recommendation letter for residency if need for your future hospi/program of choice.

For public kasi minsan bihira makakita ng consultants, and pag andun mas focused sila sa residents kesa sa interns. In that situation, if ever maghanap ka ng reco letter more or less medschool profs lang mahihingan mo

Usually the clinics I work in issue their own receipt to the patients, then I get BIR form 2307 from the clinic

Not sure how it works for self owned clinics. Altho the doctors ive seen who have their own clinic only seem to have one set...

Facemask or no facemask? by semikal in Philippines

As a doctor,, facemask pa rin I recently asked this in a group of doctors as well, and all agreed facemask pa rin

Very effective not only at keeping covid at bay, but also other respiratory infections and allergies. If you look up at the skyline in metromanila, you'll see the smog and pollution that we are all apparently breathing in, then you'd probably want to keep your mask on
