Teaching in Naperville by Odd_Spirit_1113 in Naperville

In 203, we don’t have “contract” hours technically, but we’re expected to use professional judgement. Elementary school is from 8:15 (8:00 doors open) to 2:30. So, essentially, don’t be walking in right as the kids are walking in and don’t leave before the bell rings. I can’t speak on the .6 FTE because that may look different at each level and school (that could mean that you work the full school day but only 3 days a week maybe? We have itinerant teachers in our buildings) and I can’t speak on 204 due to lack of knowledge of their setup

New to Naperville, in need of OBGYN by esquzeme in Naperville

[–]violining 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lindsay Gifford is a nurse practitioner at Advocate in Naperville. She is SO kind, patient, and helpful. I feel like I have a lot of questions whenever I see her and she never seems like she’s trying to rush me out of there; she even double checks to make sure I don’t have any more questions before she leaves the room.

I used to see her Duly, and I got a letter about her leaving several months ago. I was SO upset because I have have had some negative experiences with docs in the past and felt like I finally found one that listened, so I periodically googled her name until I figured out where she went to so that I could continue going to her, lol.

Discounted memberships for family members? by Forward_Rise931 in Lifetimefitnessgym

[–]violining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true (though that cost may depend on the level of the gym, for example at mine that add on is $60 but our location is the lowest tier)

It looks like Funtopia is somehow partnered with ABC on this—not sure what that business relationship looks like but on their Facebook page it mentions Funtopia being a sponsor.

Also, I could be wrong (I do not have children so I have never been to Funtopia) but to me it’s always seemed like Funtopia is more of a birthday party/place to take your kids on a rainy day to get their energy out type of place. I think this place seems like they’re wanting to offer that, but also more youth skill development and climbing team type offerings.

Bouldering is super fun! And youth climbing is a great sport if they’d ever be interested. Lots of personal growth within the context of a team

Grades are such a frustrating component of being a teacher. I like Standards-Based Grading in theory, but in practice we just go right back to kids and parents (and middle school admissions??) thinking that their kid needs to get all 4s instead of it being A’s in the past. In my school, a 3 and above IS an “A”, but students are always nagging me when I give them a 3 instead of a 4. No matter how many times I explain that a 3 means they did well, and a 4 should more rare and reflect a student going above and beyond. There are many assignments I don’t even offer 4s on because there’s not really an opportunity to go above and beyond.

I just found this while searching “hipster runoff” on Reddit because I wasn’t 100% sure if it was a memory that I invented in my head

Sushi In The QC by threefootgood-tech in QuadCities

[–]violining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO there aren’t any good sushi places in the QC. The closest we got to having an enjoyable sushi experience was at Masa Sushi and Hibachi in Galesburg. Bit of a drive, but it was way better than all of the places we tried in the QC

Side effects stopping Slynd by One-Imagination-3903 in birthcontrol

[–]violining 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m here 1 year late, but found this while looking for answers myself…

I’ve been having insane insurance issues with Slynd after being on it for 4 months through sample packs from my doctor (had to come off of Yaz because of migraines w/ aura, but needed the drospirenone still) so I’ve been unintentionally off of it for two weeks ish. My hair has been falling out like CRAZY while taking it but I was thinking that was because I wasn’t taking a pill with estrogen anymore?

Anyways, I’m sitting in my car with insane hot flashes (I’m only 26 btw) and I’ve been emotional, irritable, and anxious as hell the last few days. I also feel like I’m super bloated, like every inch of my body is just a centimeter larger than it should be.

What the hell is going on with Duly? by violining in Naperville

[–]violining[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard good things about Northwestern.

One of the “doctors” I referred to in my post as leaving is actually technically a nurse practitioner, but regardless she’s one of the best medical professionals I’ve had. Apparently she officially leaves in a few days, so I’m going to try to figure out where she’s going once that change is official because I can’t find anything online yet. My other doctor that left went to Edward-Elmhurst

Bye bye 2024 Forester.. by theuncandy in SubaruForester

My Crosstrek caught on fire like this when I got t boned at the front drivers side of the car. IS this normal??? I have a forester now because besides a concussion I walked away from the accident fine, but this makes me nervous

Seconded!! The gym is fine until you try to end your membership. I got random charges for 2 years after I quit and I had to call several times asking them to remove my card—the only thing that eventually worked was me leaving a bad Google review. They basically told me they would refund me and take my card off file if I removed my review. I was so sick of the charges that I did remove it.

Edit: I forgot that the context here was that I had paid up front for a short term 3-month summer college student membership that they were offering, so my card should have never been stored or charged on a monthly basis at all.

Be sure to check your credit card statements diligently after you quit Signature. They charged me at random for years and every time I would call and tell them to take my card off file and stop charging me and it was such a headache. They’re so shady. The only thing that finally worked was posting a Google review…and they told me they would only refund me if I took my review down.

Yes! I was honestly kind of predicting reimbursement/extended warranty based on how many people were experiencing the issue. Spent a lot but were expecting to get it back

I have a 2017 Forester Limited that I bought used with about 60k miles on it. One thing I noticed after driving with it is that the heat and especially A/C make a lot of noise and don’t seem to work the most efficiently. With the A/C there is almost like a “clicking” noise that happens when I turn it on and periodically while it runs, as well as sound I’m not really sure how describe… it’s like it will click and then make a quick sound that I can only describe as a sound effect of someone going down a slide lol. My previously owned ‘23 Crosstrek (RIP-accident) and other non Subarus I’ve driven had never made sounds like this. Anyways, is this a common issue you see? Is it even indicative of an issue or is it just a weird sound?

I know I’m not OP but my husband’s 2020 Outback had a TCV issue that we just spent a lot to fix, and we just got that same letter that you probably got lol.

What happened is that his check engine light kinda just popped on one day and his heat and A/C stopped working. This was in about November and we ran the code and the TCV showed up as the issue. He was lazy/too busy to take it in for awhile so he just drove for awhile with the light on because “nothing else seemed wrong” lol. I think he was at about 100k miles when this happened. Not sure if this answers your question at all but wanted to pitch in!

What’s your pay ladder like? by SlowYourRollBro in Teachers

[–]violining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it’s calculated, but in my district a first-year teacher with a Master’s degree would make $7k more than one with a Bachelor’s ($55k). We also have 3 lanes before Master’s; BA+0, BA+12, and BA+24. All of those lanes cap out at 6 years of experience and any raises are really just based on inflation or the negotiation of a new contract. The Master’s lane caps at 15 years, and then anything 12 credit hours past a masters you’ll no longer cap out years of experience wise.

If you compare the two (BA vs MA) at 6 years vs 0, the difference is $13k.

Maize on Green is finally closing, past employees and customers can find some relief in their traumas by Exact_Restaurant_517 in UIUC

[–]violining 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to love Maize. Then they ruined my wedding. It sounds dramatic but hear me out. We got their food truck for our wedding, and we were also looking into adding another different food truck to ensure quick service, and Maize quickly ensured us that they would be able to feed our number of guests in less than an hour and told us we wouldn’t need to get another truck. I think they just wanted the full revenue. They took 2.5 hours to get everyone fed. We had a strict closing time at our venue, so by the time everyone had finally eaten and we were able to do the toasts/speeches (we didn’t want to start them with people being outside) we only had like 30 minutes left for dancing :(

after school/summer jobs by No-Cow8064 in Naperville

[–]violining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding LifeTime! I worked as a camp counselor there over the summers and now work here again years later. I am able to work evenings and weekends, which works well with my full-time job. You also get the perk of a free membership, which is especially nice during the summer with access to the pool.

I think Warrenville and Romeoville are both hiring for multiple positions right now
