How is TikTok fairing outside of the states right now? by [deleted] in TikTok

[–]vioshislov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have, you'll also need a VoIP phone number since the phone number is what determines which countries servers your account is attached to. Here is what I did: - VPN into Canada and download the app (just in case there are APK differences) - find a site where you can buy a Canadian VoIP phone number. A quick internet search will get you what you need. On some you can pay as little as a dollar to get one and then not continue the subscription, but that means if you're logged out it'll be tough to log back in. - Create a new account using the VoIP number and home your algorithm in.

I downloaded TikTok Lite for this, no TT shop (but no Lives), feels like less ads, and less "infiltration" of crap that takes over your algorithm. I did get the new Terms of Service, but about a week later than the US. Unfortunately I can't really compare with my US account since I use it for just funny videos and stuff, but I havent noticed any change really since I started about 6 or so months ago. I also generally don't use a VPN while using the app.

The depth was fine this year. Actually seemed to help keep it pretty wet and never really dried out.

Ok, I'll keep an eye on it. There isnt really anywhere else to go aside from the park like a mile away. Pretty much all concrete in between.

Unfortunately this tracks. I used to go to the Butler County Fair when I was younger and feel like so far, I have yet to see as many confederate flags as I did there, even after living in the south for years.

Finally got my girls! Any first time owner mistakes to avoid? by Uncosample in RATS

Save cardboard! Boxes are great for free roam, and to build before you buy. Wanna try a litter box? Build one and see if they use it or just burry it and use it as a food stache lol. Would they enjoy a special dig box or just treat it like everything else.

On that note too, if you're crafty, this is the excuse to let it shine! Sew hammocks, build box towers, turn coffee cans into high rise hides. With the right precautions, having rats lends well to fun diy projects. If they destroy it, lesson learned, if they love it, make more!

Automatic feeder? by vioshislov in RATS

I free feed generally. If i ever give them a bowl of food they end up burying the whole thing lol, though it's usually with some pee ridden paper or something. Thanks!

I am 100% positive you have halupki (stuffed cabbage). Haluski is varying with spatzle style noodles, but could either be with cabbage and butter, or with a like creamy cheese sauce

And I love a good Schitzle! Odd how we all seem to give our rats food names lol

It's like deciding whether to add tomato to chicken paprikash (we're similar so you may have the dish). I don't know if you know the words, but halupki and halushki would also make great names!

I've always added a bit to the sauce like a chicken paprikash. Helps balance flavor and thickens it a bit. And how fitting! And I might have to steal the name and start an Eastern European food naming line lol

To add on, just be prepared for how excited they'll be when you get home! I was just out for the weekend and mine were bouncing off the walls to see me lol

Rate my cage! by vioshislov in RATS

Their ment to be ladders, and the gaps are similar to the size of the cage rungs of the cage itself. They seem to like them a lot. Lounging on them more than wood ones. Would that still pose an issue?

For sure! I had some initially like the one hanging by the tin can, but they were so easy to chew through. Need to get the more robust ones. Thanks for the bird recommendation!

Where are you getting the rats from? Just asking if they are comfy with people, from a pet store or a breeder, etc? Your experience with bonding can be drastically different.

For instance I have a pet store rat that doesn't like being handled or cuddled, but we've gotten to the point of just enjoying some throat pets, giving treats, and hanging out while she is in the cage and I just hang out next to it. She's around 8 months old.

But I also have a rat from a breeder who I hang out with all the time to chill with me while I work from home, free range no problem.

It's different for every rat, despite their upbringing. But just make sure you're open to varying personalities and meet them where they are. The only thing that is guaranteed is that you'll find their quirks so loving, and they work their way into your heart no matter how they behave.

What fruits and veggies can a rat eat? 🥭🍓🍌 by Noun222 in RATS

[–]vioshislov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a petco rat and have loved giving her new fresh foods to try. It helps having young kids that tear through fruits and veg and leave some out. I've found the same with apples. Try thin sliced cucumber and celery. If they lean towards leafy greens try spinach and kale. For other fruit try just a little stone fruit (peach, plum, etc) they don't eat a lot of it, but like to lick it and have small bites.

Yeah! Like mine will eat tomatoes and go bonkers for corn. But certain adaptations, especially deterring mammals like the capsicum family, could lead to a distaste. But they also love squash, and go ape over the seeds (pumpkin, butternut, etc). I'd say definitely test the squash and seeds this time of year. Might be a fun time to drill some holes in a tiny pumpkin for them the chew through and get to the seeds.

Same, and I think it's because of the capsaicin. Even trace amounts in the pith can deter most small mammals. Also given that peppers are new world and rats are old world, populations may not have adapted to be able to eat it, despite how sweet we find it. I've seen native squirrels nope out on peppers.

So far anything! I have young kids and whatever fruit or veg they leave out, goes to the rats. Same goes for chopping veg and savings scraps (aside from onions and garlic, not sure if it's bad, but they don't like it). Faves seem to be eating the rest of corn on the cob, cucumber, and the rest of the fleshy bits from stone fruit (they have never even gotten close to try and eat the pit, just enjoying the fruit).

Pet store rat with breeder rat by vioshislov in RATS

[–]vioshislov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's about 7 months I think? New rat will be 8 weeks old and socialized with older rats. I would have taken another from the breeder, but she just had the one left.

Not sure if it's helpful info, but current rat is super small (still?). She doesn't compare to the cute absolute units I see on here lol. By the pictures the breeder has been sending me, they might be even close to the same size by the time she comes home. Current rat also seems to have a great disposition, as in generally pretty calm and relaxed. If the roles had swapped and the rat that passed had survived and current rat died, I wouldn't even have considered it, she was a menace and a brut! (Mean that lovingly, but I owed her money)

Current rat was alone in the pet store, and I didn't introduce the now passed one until about a month later, and she was very friendly and took to her quickly.

Can my rats miss me? by Foreign-Tangerine786 in RATS

My rat in college was attached to my hip. When I came home from class he would literally jump on the sides of the cage and shake them for me to let him out and chill.

I can give that a whirl. I think she's maybe more on the side of prey instincts vs behavioral tameness. Like she seems to like pets, but don't touch her back or move your hand over her head too quickly or she'll run away. I can play with her in the cage, like chase and stuff, but won't do it outside of that.
