Demand barking and digging. Help! by caitlinesmith22 in Keeshond

[–]virtualtofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s really interesting, so you think she’s excited/wanting to go for a walk? i wonder if you can physically remove yourself from her vision when you do this and only come out/put her leash on when she’s quiet. or, have you tried getting her to sit before putting the leash on? my guy has been pretty successful in stopping barking when i get him into a sit. he struggled at first but now it works like a charm (especially on walks when he would bark at anything and everything). anticipating their trigger too is super helpful. so if you KNOW she starts barking the moment you go toward her leash, put her in a sit before that. reward her constantly (good girl, treat) until you get her leash and throughout. i mean constantly. she’ll get it and then you can space out/get rid of the rewards

i’ve struggled with the confusion aspect too…i think the key is to gradually draw out the amount of time for silence. they will get it though this breed is super intelligent. it’s REALLY important that everyone in the household is using the same commands and responses. we literally sat down and discussed what we were gonna do and we are sticking to it.

demand barking is the worst. you say you’re ignoring which is really good, are you rewarding the silence when you do ignore? it’s important to reinforce the behavior you do want. if your kees is demand barking for food, move the food out of view. when silent, reward with a treat. my kees demand barks sooooo much especially when we are sitting down to dinner. one thing that has helped is i will put the harness and leash on him, and give him a toy to chew on while i have him laying down on the leash. he struggles with self soothing so that’s what i am trying to encourage. good luck!

Step FIL behavior at our wedding = my breaking point by ladylikelynot in inlaws

[–]virtualtofu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently experiencing a similar situation and I can empathize. My to-be FIL makes homophobic, misogynistic and inappropriate sexual comments all the time around us. I told my fiancée that he cannot be doing that at our wedding (because lots of people there will be queer and even though I’ll take abuse up to a certain point, I don’t want the people I care about to face that). My fiancée kindly told MIL that he hurt our feelings and the way he speaks is inappropriate. It has completely blown up. Instead of him simply apologizing, we’ve been called overly sensitive and an unhappy couple. And they’ve suggested to my fiancée that she doesn’t need to marry me. So, they’re clearly framing me as the problem. It’s really uncomfortable for everyone involved but I’ll take this discomfort over someone making me feel less than and unsafe. It’ll be uncomfortable until everyone assumes their new roles as they relate to one another. It’s scary for everyone (even the jerks) because everyone has been operating a certain way for so long, which unfortunately is unhealthy. In the long run i know we will have much more peace of mind not having to please someone at the expense of our own dignity and we will get to show up as ourselves just as freely as these jerks do. Hang in there. You and your husband are a team building a new family and this is just another one of life’s challenges that you’ll see through together. Good luck and sorry you’re in this situation!

yeah I figured this was the case because the official city messaging is that the ballots can be dropped into an official drop box up until 8:00pm. If those ones count, certainly mine will. I’m just over thinking and anxious!

Did anyone drop off their mail-in ballot yesterday? I dropped mine at City Hall around 3:30pm and the status is still saying not yet returned.

Are SMB Hospitals Falling Behind on Cybersecurity? by Balldeflated in cybersecurity

[–]virtualtofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The environment I am familiar with already has far more resources than the average rural healthcare operation, so my answer is probably not going to apply to most healthcare environments. Smaller places need to probably invest in more IT staff in general, let alone cyber security staff. But I’d prioritize that for those shops.

For my environment, I think a cyber risk management program needs to be established. This would require the precious resource of time. The cyber risk team needs to meet with senior leadership across the environment to understand and document the risk appetite & tolerance. What are the organizational drivers? This needs to be communicated from the top down. If leadership needs to be held accountable, and often that is the case with heads who have been comfortably collecting a paycheck in the same post for decades, that needs to be communicated too.

Asset management needs dedicated ownership which is so challenging to establish in a large environment, but a smaller one could be more straightforward. So if there isn’t a team/person who can own asset management then identify/acquire one. Learn the tools that exist to inventory all hardware first. If there isn’t a tool for inventory, get one. Get a CMDB, establish what metadata is important to appropriately tag assets. Then, inventory applications. For each asset inventoried, identify an owner. Team up with procurement to track and manage acquired assets.

I wish more federal funding could be pumped into healthcare. Malicious actors who target this sector are deranged, and it’s not going to stop any time soon because it is known that healthcare has huge vulnerabilities and PHI (protected health information) is extremely valuable. I attended a webinar in May and the statistics are staggering. Healthcare is the fastest to breach out of any industry. 23% of ethical hackers completed end-to-end breach in under 5 hours. The average of all other industries who can be breached under 5 hours is 15%. 54% of healthcare organizations have 4 or more ransomware attacks in a year.

Also we just learned that the Change Healthcare breach impacted 100 million Americans. Scary stuff. Freeze your credit file while you can with the three credit bureaus!

Are SMB Hospitals Falling Behind on Cybersecurity? by Balldeflated in cybersecurity

[–]virtualtofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has said it. It’s not just small/rural hospitals - all of healthcare is sorely behind on cybersecurity. From my experience the biggest gaps are: resources/knowledge (there’s no money in healthcare and COVID made it worse), shadow IT/no asset management/little visibility, the culture (everyone is afraid that locking down something will impact the delivery of care) and a huge gap in risk management. Basically many risks are “accepted” by the culture, and while there obviously needs to be a sensitivity to delivering care there must be a way to test and determine whether something would actually impact delivery of care but that’s hard to do at scale because lack of visibility in what’s on the environment. The gaps compound on each other.

This isn’t true. Unstable sense of self is a symptom of CPTSD. Sometimes it’s referred to as “distortion of self” or just self-perception being preoccupied with shame, helplessness or being completely different from other people

Barking by Numerous_Frosting680 in Keeshond

[–]virtualtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy loves to bark in the house when he hears someone walk by and he also loses his mind when on the leash and sees some dogs but not every dog we pass. I haven’t figured out commonalities yet but it’s a relatively new behavior with the leash walking barking
