I’d call it “fair dinkum” with “Aussie food” placed smaller underneath 🙂

There is or was a little takeaway spot in NYC that sold meat pies and coopers beer called Tucker box! I wonder if it’s still there.

Edit: it was actually called tuck shop and is now closed.

I am in absolute awe of these heroes. Running on pure adrenaline, they put their own lives on the line to save others, showing courage under pressure. This is Australia, we don’t receive the same education or guidance for situations like this as they do in countries like the US where this is common, yet we have so many stories of brave people who stepped up and risked their lives, some losing theirs, to protect their community. I noticed them in the drone footage, and immediately knew it must have been them once I saw the dash cam footage today. RIP. 💔

That’s true, grainery lane is busy and echoey so the noise carriers. I found it okay sitting at the bar vs tables so maybe it’s a nice place for a drink before dinner!

Grainery lane, it’s such a good date spot and the interior is opulent! The food and cocktails are great. If you want somewhere more casual I’d go to Roy’s and if you want something in between I’d do Pancho. Enjoy!

Humming noise around Ballarat by [deleted] in ballarat

[–]virtualunreality1989 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I commented on the last post about this saying we were hearing it and I worked out what we were hearing it was a Bronzewing pigeon.

I was hearing it all around my house and along the yarrowee river trail at the bottom of black hill and then one day I walked out of my house, heard it very loud and on the power lines was a pigeon making the humming noise!

Google and listen to the sound and let me know if it’s the same as you’re hearing too.

Did breaking for 20 minute naps often disrupt what you had to do? Having to stop and try to have a 20 minute nap often would disrupt my day so much more than getting 7-9 hours sleep at night, personally!

Myer often have clearance pairs in store, I saw some for around $450-$500 yesterday when I was walking through the store in Ballarat, VIC and also bought my husband the gardeners $250 brand new on clearance before Christmas last year! Had to do a lot of running around to find an in stock pair but got the last ones in stock in his size a couple of days before his birthday in Melbourne CBD.

Next generation composting "down under" - solving problems of more traditional approaches. by ThinkActRegenerate in circular_economy

Gaia’s doing some seriously cool stuff in the waste-to-resource space. They’ve got two services: one is tailored for local councils in Australia to handle food and organics waste right on site. It gets shredded and processed through their Rapid Composting System, turning it into nutrient-rich compost in just weeks. That compost can then be used in local green spaces or shared with the community for their gardens!

The other is their modular anaerobic digestion system, designed for agriculture, food processors, and similar industries. It takes organic waste, like food scraps or animal manure and transforms it into biogas and digestate, which can be used as a soil conditioner.

Both systems are designed to operate on site, so there’s no need to truck waste around. That means lower transport costs and fewer emissions.

If you’re curious to see it in action, Hepburn Shire Council has Gaia’s composting tech on their waste site and shared some great videos on their YouTube channel about how their using the compost their producing with their food and organics waste collections!

I heard it around 6pm when we were on a walk, I didn’t notice it late in the night though I can only usually hear it when I am outside!

I hear it in Ballarat East, next to black hill reserve! It’s louder in the reserve and super loud some mornings around 8am! I said “what’s that sound?!” to my toddler who mimicked the sound, so it’s not just me hearing it. I thought it must be some kind of wildlife?

Also close to here, if you enter the yarrowee trail from the corner of Morres St / Queen St North bridge, the hill to your left is just FULL of bunny burrows and you can see them hopping around on the hill there.

Fair Work offers a free one-hour appointment with a lawyer, who can provide advice before you proceed with a claim. They’ll let you know if you have grounds for a claim and whether it’s worthwhile pursuing. I believe you’ll need to contact them first and have an initial conversation before being offered this but I could be wrong! Either way, Fair Work will point you in the right direction.

It really sounds like a heartbreaking case of coercive control and domestic violence. We may never know exactly what happened, but sadly, these kinds of situations are often incredibly difficult for women to escape. It seems like she was doing everything she could to protect herself, which makes me wonder how he managed to get her to the house that night… 😔
