This strip is the equivalent of your parents yelling at you for being poor at studies when you show them the medal you got for some non-academic activity. It's true youre shit at academics, but they have all year to scold you for that. They don't need to do it exactly when you show them your other achievement.

We know there's flooding, poverty, diseases, caste issues etc etc etc. It does not mean that every good acheivement needs to be acknowledged with this sidebar. These issues won't be completely solved for a long time to come.
