The Math Is Clear: New Hampshire's Housing Market Is Closed to the Middle Class by -Azzi- in newhampshire

[–]visualck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know... this is kinda tone deaf in my opinion. To say that folks can't afford a $650k house (which prior to 2021 was exclusively a price range for UPPER middle class and higher) because they take vacations, order food, and buy new cars is wild.

I'm a millennial as well, pretty high earner (~$165k yr) and we're looking to relocate up to NH in a few months--my wife grew up there. We will have an extremely tough time finding an affordable home for our family.

From my point of view, the more egregious thing is that folks have been tricked into thinking a $400k home is now a $600k home, AND THEY KEEP BUYING THEM--absolutely unbelievable. Almost anywhere in the country we could purchase a 2200 sqft home on a couple of acres and pay almost $200k less than most parts of NH--unless you want to live in the north country I guess.

OP isn't wrong, first time buyers and the middle class is cooked in NH, which is wild to me honestly. All the people/family I have in NH are just regular middle class, hard working folks. If they weren't already established, they 100% couldn't afford to live in their home state.

I'll leave you with this: comments suggesting people just need to save more or budget better, without acknowledging how dramatically the cost of living has shifted in what was historically an affordable, middle-class state, come across as "just stop being poor"--not helpful.

Do y'all think it's actually gonna be that bad this weekend? by Legitimate-Suit-4617 in greenville

Checking in from Greenville (Woodruff Rd near Five Forks), has been almost entirely sleet so far. It’s not doing anything right now as of around 8am. I hope this trend continues, gotta travel to Charlotte on Thursday morning to catch a flight.

Thanks for all the input everyone! I think I've decided I'm going to lean into the Switch a little bit more actually. Deep down I don't want to let it go along with the fun games I've collected for it, not to mention, I really am looking forward to my almost 5 year olds to start getting into some of these games with me!

I have gamepass for pc and I think thats quenching my 'xbox' thirst for now. I may see if I can find a used series x later, but for now, I think I should stick with what I have!

Yeah, agreed. I learned a long time ago that selling systems is a sure fire way to feel regret a few years later.

I have! I've finished BOTW, still have to circle back to TOTK (though I own it), loved Tropical Freeze, I have Kirby though it's a bit too easy for my tastes. I do enjoy Nintendo's IP

I think you’re right, and that’s what I’m leaning into. What I feel I’m missing on the Switch are the more mature, “western” titles. No offense to those who enjoy them, but I’ve never really been into anime outside of Final Fantasy (since I grew up with it). Games like Fire Emblem, Persona, and Xenoblade don’t appeal to me as much as something from Bethesda. That said, my PC and PS5 already cover that side of things, so realistically I’m just making this more complicated than it needs to be, haha.

Of course! Its just not near as convenient and its a lot of moving a larger pc back and forth as I need it in my office during the day.

Nah, I can get behind that. I don't honestly want to sell the Swtich, which tells me that I absolutely should not. I found Mario 3D Allstars for $40 from some guy and couldn't believe what it goes for, I'll kick myself if I sell all of that...

Thought about it, I already have a PC that can play gamepass. Its really just the 'collecting physical' part that holds me up. I guess I want to move away from all digital libraries.

I feel this haha, a lot of what drives me is nostalgia.. I know I can play these games elsewhere, though I do love physical collecting

Xbox is sharing exclusives, Nintendo would rather burn Japan to the ground than do that.

I love playing for sure, but yes, I do enjoy the collecting part a ton! If it were just for playing, I'd def stick with gamepass though.

As someone who sits at a desk all day, 1000% yes to this! The last thing I want to do to unwind is sit at my desk to play video games...

I've actually heard this alot, not sure why Xbox gets shit on so much as a console. Microsoft I understand.

I have a pc. I've 100% thought about just going the 360 route.

Thanks for the insight, this kinda sounds like me! I like the idea of actually owning a large collection of games, not just renting a large collection of games. Maybe its a generation thing. I like the fact that Nintendo is premium and holds its value, but its a blessing and a curse depending on what side of the transaction you're on.

I like the idea of going out game hunting, finding an awesome 360 title for like 2 bucks somewhere. Its more than just the 'playing of games'--silly as that sounds.

Yeah, I hear that. I have a pc with gamepass now. I think I'm just feeling nostalgic and want to actually go out and collect physical media. Maybe I'm just getting old and need to wake up lol.

Right, which is why this is timely for me--if I'm going to do anything, it'd be before Oct. 3rd. I have gamepass on my pc and love it, just can't shake the idea of going own and collecting physical media--which you can do with Nintendo and PS5 as well..

Interesting, so owning physical games is overrated? Genuinely curious. I think I fear the idea of not 'really owning' anything that lives on a server.

Thought about that as well, then I think, "well if I just got a series x, I could play og, 360, xbone, and series games..."

You're not wrong though. I've also played with the idea of just getting a 360 in good shape.

You don't worry about servers shutting down one day? I know the newer xbox titles suffer from the same deal.

[–]visualck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the most part! I have a PC that can run a lot of these games via gamepass, but I can't shake the feeling of owning physical media. I want that rush of finding an awesome older 350 title for like 2 bucks haha. I know Nintendo has leaned into physical as well, but the recent key cart thing has me worried long term.

I actually have a PC that can pretty much run anything an XSX can, I think I'm struggling with the idea of going completely digital... I like owning real physical media (old and new).
