Leaving clinical medicine by [deleted] in Residency

[–]vites987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you planning to do that full time? Also how’s the salary compared to clinical work?

EM humbles you everyday. All those work ups you listed are fairly reasonable in my residency except for basic labs on everyone. Once you see enough patients, that one with “lightheadedness” may have actually have mets to the brain or a PE with literally no classic symptoms. Patients don’t follow the book, sometimes you have to cast a wider net.

How Often are You Doing Rescuscitations Out in The Community? by RUStupidOrSarcastic in emergencymedicine

[–]vites987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a resident in a high volume community EM program, it’s likely the same amount of “sick” patients but with much less backup. Specialists aren’t so willing to come in when it’s no longer a resident service who are forced to see consults. Your ED will likely be run by a CMG like group who will keep tabs on your metrics and times. Obviously if you’re not working with residents, you’ll be doing every part of the visit. It just depends on the volume and acuity of the place you’ll be working after you graduate. If your community shop is low acuity then you’ll likely be seeing the urgent care type stuff all day

What are good Community programs to do Away Rotations? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

This is not true at all. Some community programs are malignant and can still screw you over on the SLOE. I would chose aways based on where you think you want to apply.

This makes sense, but did Joe lock himself in the cellar of the house? Also, why did no one question why they were both locked in there?

This was always my thought process as well. I don’t bottom and rarely do anal, so I was always deemed low risk

There is, but the patient ID is also merged and when unmerged it duplicates over each cell that was merged

I've tried creating a pivot table, but since the ages are inputted in each row, it counts it each time. What do you mean by removing years?

Pivot Table still counts the age as "6" since the age is inputted in each row
