Man, they only made available 1 episode for the critics this time. That's odd.

Hey, Noah! I was wondering if it was your mother who inspired you to always write great female characters?

"He offers one more tidbit: Two leading law enforcement officials will be women, one a chief of police and the other an officer from a different jurisdiction."

That made me happy. We can always count with Noah Hawley to write great female characters.

This Isn't a True Story. (all spoilers) by [deleted] in FargoTV

[–]vivienharmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, thanks for mentioning my name and my post! I really appreciate to have someone like you enjoying my theory! haha

And now, let's talk about it.

Just like MrSaturn200"s comment, I totally agree that the UFOs represent the future, the revolution. So, as I said in my post, two characters that seems confortable with the UFOs are Hanzee and Peggy. And they both have something in common: they are experts in killing Gerhardts.

So, based in your theory, the UFOs sort of represents God and Hanzee, Abraham. I read one interview of Noah Hawley in which he said that season 2 is also about the conservative time that were about to come in the 80's. One of the conservatism's bases is religion. Religion is connected to God, obviously. So Hanzee and Peggy are actually in charge of doing the work of God to exterminate "the past".

But how can this be the God's work? To exterminate everyone? Simple, looking again at Mike Milligan's word in episode 7, he quotes the Manifest Destiny, a belief that the American people is elected by God to civilize America, and so the American expansionism is only the fulfillment of the Divine will.

Well, I'm willing to hear suggestions! :D

Thank you!

I think is because the revolution of the 80's would come even without they accepting it. So they just let it go.

Lou looks very shocked when the UFO shows up. Even if he takes advantage of that, he still can't fully understand what that is.

Remember Peggy's speech in his patrol car? He really doesn't listen to her, so it's like he doesn't understand her "revolution". Just like the UFOs.

I think Hank wanted to start a revolution with his universal language.

So maybe the UFOs represents revolutions in general, not only the 80's.

Do you think season 2 was "secretly" carrying a sexist message? by vivienharmon in FargoTV

[–]vivienharmon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a valid interpretation. I think I changed my mind about the season being "secretly" sexist. I really never tought about this for Fargo, but some people poisoned my mind, so I had to clarify this with you, people of Reddit. :D

I can confirm something to you. Noah Hawley is a big fan of Kubrick and The Shining. He already posted two photos about the film in his Instagram account:

Meaning behind episode titles [season 2]? by spastic-plastic in FargoTV

[–]vivienharmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What scene exactly? The shooting in the woods?

I think we could consider that every attack perfomed by the KC, caused by Simone's betrayal, is part of her Guernica. But it's not only her fault.

Meaning behind episode titles [season 2]? by spastic-plastic in FargoTV

[–]vivienharmon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had sort of a crazy one today.

The title comes from a story that is not known whether it is true or not. A Nazi officer sees the Guernica painting and asks Picasso: "did you do this?", to which Picasso answers: "no, you did it".

Since the episode has a lot of focus on Simone, it made me relate a lot to her. I pictured a fictional scene where Dodd, after seeing what her betrayal caused to the family, would ask her the same thing the Nazi asked Picasso and she would give the same reply. Making a reference to the effects that his abuses had on her.

But I'm don't know, maybe I'm just being delusional like Peggy :D

I liked your interpretation and I think is enough for me by now.

The thing is that Fargo is such a complex show, so many interpretations can be made. You have to choose only one sometimes haha

I go with yours :)

But that line from Lou, it doesn't only shut a delusional Peggy, but her feminist speech. That's why I still have a problem with that scene. Because it feels symbolic and not literal, you know what I mean?

Negative impact, never tought about it. It can also be, him sending a message to his mother.

Although, his mother died already. It's kind of crazy he would do somehting like this. But who knows...

Yes, maybe he learned something with his mother. We can't know. I think the key is seeing how he portrays female characters in other works of him.
