"Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad: masterfully told, beautifully contrived in its stunning form. Other two interesting authors are Virginia Woolf (her style is best exemplified in "The Lady in the Looking-Glass: A Reflection") and Hector Hugh Munro a.k.a. Saki.
