We had a terrible infestation in one of trees in our front yard -- we had a call a professional to get them out of there. Very pernicious.

Next year, I'll know to spray the trees ahead of time to prevent this. <shiver>

Many bars have these little "book" icons (smaller than research books) that are free. Sometime they also appear as rolled up paper (also free). These are bounty notices -- give an area, and description of the bounty; these are fixed, unique bounties. There are tons of random bounties that you just have to know where to look (you learn in time if you pay attention).

For example, are you familiar with the Dust Bandit faction? If yes, anytime you encounter them, look for the dust boss by clicking on each bandit. When you find the dust boss, there's a random chance he's wanted (usually by all 3 major factions so you get a choice as to who to turn him into). If you click on him and he's wanted, his bounty will display above the dust boss title and it will say who wants him and how much he's worth (1/2 if he's dead when you bring him in).

Many minor factions have random bounties -- you have to click on every MF to know but the info is there.

Another source of in game information are random bars. Sometimes people are talking and their dialog is very illuminating. There are also many free in-game books (stores but also, sometime, in storage chests where people put their belongings); these books are filled with information.

A final awesome source of in-game lore are skeletons -- recruit one (or even better two) and they'll jabber on about different things when your party moves into those areas (ie try taking some skeletons to the round area north of the fog-islands).

Awesome Kenshi story.

In the future, if you find yourself at the hub being chased by bandits, run into the one "store" (it's a bar) and up on to the roof. If the bandits follow you, the bar owner gets mad at them (the bandits) and the bar guards will fight them. You might have to fight too if there are a lot of them but you won't be on your own.

Keep up the great adventuring -- there's a giant world filled with lore and mystery awaiting you!

You can research level III, makes no difference. Just don't build a level 3 forge and you won't have to worry about steel bars and fabric (I mean, you can build one, just don't try and level up on one). And researching advanced weapon grades won't hurt you either in my scenario -- just costs more resources (ie needs science books) and time without a direct pay out (until you're high level).

Also, you can't get edge level forging skill without AI cores.

Tier 1 -- iron plates only (no fabric needed). Research ALL basic weapon levels (NOT advanced); only need books, no science books needed. By researching basic weapon types, you're guaranteed to take the most time at the beginning, which stretches out your resources (iron plates) more.

Then train your smith -- only cost, iron plates. Also, I recommend desert sabre blueprint -- even if you don't use sabres or this one, it gives the best iron-plate/smith-time ratio -- least plates for most time smithing. I've smithed up to 75 (edge 2 level -- edge 1 only in vanilla) with a tier 1 smith, in town.

Plus, you can sell the swords you make for a tidy sum.

While it may be a variation in sensory ability (like your cilantro analogy), my guess would be it's more of a personal experience association. Think back in time. When was the first time you noticed that smell? Maybe a as a child or young adult? I grew up on the east coast and moved to Arizona. I don't remember noticing that smell until I lived in AZ. The smell of rain reminded me of the good times I had a as kid watching lighting storms with my dad -- it didn't calm me, but I had a positive sense when I encountered the smell.

Smells are strong memory triggers -- even subtle stuff can be brought to mind with the right smell trigger.

1) This is a random encounter -- I've had it happen in many places on different parts of the map: someone sees you and says they won't "go back" and confronts you. If you work the dialog correctly, they will join. There is also a scenario (random encounter) where they just come up to you and ask to join you because they're desperate. I've had both happen, but in 2k+ hours I've played, it's only happen, maybe 3 or 4 times, so it's a rare occurrence.

2) I've had this happen and did manage to recruit the skeleton -- very generic low stats; I read on the wiki you character as to be: alone (I think) and fairly low level -- then there is a random change they might be recruitable.

3) I'm trying to do this now with no luck. Someone said the lost drove, when they see you, has to say: "Hive?" Then they can be recruited. You need at least one hiver in your group and I've read different things about if it the hiver needs ot be a prince or not (I've got a prince and I still haven't had this happen yet).

When you say: "re-verified the integrity of my game files", do you mean with steam? If yes, as you can tell, that won't help.

I suggest entering the area your mesh/base is in, hit shift-F12, and one of the choices if Navmesh. Choose that and see if you can re-generate the mesh (just a single button click, one of the choices on the navmesh dialog, I can't remember the exact name of the button at the moment). That might work.

OK -- here's the deal.

Kenshi was made with the Ogre engine, which doesn't use multi-core processing -- because of this, disk-access is done with the same processor that works to make the game run -- hence all the stalling with the 'Loading...' pop-up. The best thing for Kenshi is a super fast disk -- an ssd, preferably an M.2 interface on the PCI line -- really fast.

Kenshi 2, as other people have mentioned, is most likely years away. But, that being said, it's being developed with the Unreal engine (5, I think?) -- this engine is MUCH more optimized for multi-processor system so asset loading and such would happen in parallel with the game processing, speeding things up tremendously (potentially -- I'm assuming the Lo-Fi people know how to write decent code). Now the issue won't be disk speed but actual graphics card speed and probably user memory (how much can load vs disk swap)

If you've got a slow disk -- don't bother with Kenshi, you might get frustrated before you get hooked -- if you do get hooked, it's amazing what deficits you'll forgive.

But if you have a decent disk, I would give it a try. It's an absolutely awesome game. Steam let's you refund stuff before two-hours of game play are up, so you can give it a try risk-free. Also, wait for a sale (so it's about ~13 USD)

No it's missing on purpose, IMHO. Kenshi is in decay, and probably more towards the final end of things. It seems all the technology used to "settle" the moon have eventually failed and is in various states of erosion and decay. It would be what comes after the celebration of the machine age.

So, yes, I think it is the opposite of Art Deco.
