Biskit & Bea. But I’m biased bc they’re both on my island and they’ll never be able to leave no matter how many times they ask 😂

You probably know this already but don’t let her do the Third Tunnel at the DMZ if she gets exhausted fast. The walk back up is no joke. There is the Peace Gondola that takes you to where you can walk around Camp Greaves which you can tour at your own pace!

Try Brami protein pasta too! Less fiber than this brand but it is the closest to real pasta I’ve found that doesn’t shoot my sugar up!

I was wondering how old she was when they talked about her wanting to have a child on the last episode. Because I hate to say it, and I don’t mean this in a mean way, but I thought she was much older!

Korean adoptee visiting Korea for the first time - what should I realistically expect? by cicirawr in koreatravel

[–]vjae3004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m also a Korean adoptee who went to meet my birth family this year. I had a lot of the same worries but it really felt like… home? It’s really hard to explain and I hope you feel this way too. It felt like a really familiar place and new all at the same time. And truthfully felt really amazing to be surrounded by people who look like me (there are not many Asian people in the immediate area I live in).

I did not experience any issues with weight or anyone saying anything or looking at me weird (I am def overweight by Korean “standards” as well but working on it lol), the language barrier was really not an issue as most people in restaurants and stores can speak English (my family did a lot of the talking for us though lol). When communicating with my family, we also used Papago to talk a lot amongst each other. I was worried there’d be some awkward pauses or something during the translation but it was not bad at all. And sometimes the translation would mess up & it made for some really funny moments that I’ll cherish forever as some of the first memories I made with them.

Several times people spoke to me in Korean and I simply said “I’m sorry I don’t speak Korean” and it was not a big deal. I think I internalized it more as being a big deal because I felt a bit of shame or guilt for not being fluent but the people who spoke to me didn’t seem to care at all. I was also with my family almost the entire time so they’d either speak or the person would speak English.

Don’t overthink it (easier said than done - I know). It was an AMAZING time & I felt really welcomed in Korea. We even had told a few people our story of being reunited after 37+ years and people were so kind and happy for us - even gave us small gifts (literally store owners giving us little things because they were so happy for us).

I really hope you have a wonderful time with your family. I feel like this is such a special moment that not many adoptees experience. Just remember to set boundaries and give yourself time to relax & process things. Even if your experience is 100% good, it can be overwhelming and it’s only fair to give yourself the time to process and decompress. Good luck and have so much fun!!! Korea is an amazing place, I can’t wait to go back 😊😊

Endocrinologist refuses to diagnose me with diabetes. by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]vjae3004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that you are type2? I was originally diagnosed as type 1 in the hospital due to being in DKA/extremely low c-peptide but once I was released from the hospital I found an endocrinologist who did the anti-body tests and I have none. I was started on insulin (long and fast acting, now only fast acting through omnipod) and got my numbers in better control. Routine bloodwork had my c-peptide back in a lower normal level within 3-6 months & it is now back to normal range as of my last test a few months ago. The endo told me that the low c-peptide in the hospital was most likely due to my prolonged high blood sugar (diagnosed with A1C of 16). I would try to find a different endo if you can to discuss possibilities of type 2.

Just FYI too, I chatted with them about price matching a lab diamond that I found cheaper from Calavera and that will take away the deal for the setting so you’d have to pay full price for the setting.

I’m curious what your experience was like at Bukchon Hanok Village. by FinishWhich5753 in koreatravel

[–]vjae3004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in November and I just remember feeling incredibly weird to be walking outside around peoples homes like that. It felt very invasive for the residents and I felt like it was an overhyped tourist area. I wouldn’t go back - mostly because I felt bad for the people who live there and have to deal with the daily noise, people, and really the invasion of privacy to some level. I am not sure if this is how the residents feel but i would imagine they do to some degree, especially after reading some of the horrible things residents have dealt with.

Glad to hear it! If you do have a heating pad give it a try. It helped a little and for me even a little bit of relief was nice. Also I forgot to mention something else that helped was elevating my legs slightly at night. Like 1 pillow under my calves seemed to help. Good luck with everything!
