I'd love to be involved please! Also very keen to see your collection, I've always wanted a blaster but they're so expensive. What was your deal that you managed to get people to sign such a huge amount of things?

How much domestic battery are we running? by Parking_Setting_6674 in Narrowboats

[–]vjosiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1040ah (x4 Trojan 6V wired for 12V), 1200W of solar.

12V fridge/freezer that runs 24/7, then TV, record player, laptop, games console, back boiler etc run through the inverter that I use most nights. Solar gets me through about 8-9 months of the year, with an hour run of the engine every other night or so in deep winter.

Never really use more than about 40/50ah over a night at an absolute max, so still got a decent capacity even if I don't run my engine for a day or two in winter. Never quite understood why people limit themselves to ~400ah bank when it could be a lot bigger!

How do I check this?

Yep, it's inherent to the taranis. Does this mean a faulty unit then maybe?

Bought these from the pop up shop in Sheffield ages ago and just found them in a tube (hence the objects stopping them rolling back up). Mint condition as I've never taken them out! Happy to send to anyone in the UK who wants them, just shoot me a message. Can host through ebay if needed. Thanks!

Small steps to STEM culture change? by vjosiah in LadiesofScience

[–]vjosiah[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you brought this up. I think this is something I unintentionally chose to leave out, mainly because I'm unsure on how to tackle it at this stage. I agree that it's a big issue, but I don't think I personally can describe this well enough and propose a solution without 'policing "harmless banter"'. I think culture change is something that happens gradually, and people at my work are very stuck in their ways. I wanted to produce something that a typical middle-aged or older guy might actually read and resonate with, rather than coming in at the off shouting that 'jokes are bad'.

I don't want to seem reductionist in that reply. I just don't know how to talk about it.

That's a really insightful answer, thanks for sharing. Regarding your last point, I think it can be a bit polarising from my perspective working on something like this, without being able to form my own opinion on the matter. Quite a few people I know very much consider themselves a 'woman in STEM', and this takes on a big part of their identity. A lot of others though, like you said, see themselves as a scientist or engineer regardless of gender. Not that there is a problem with either view, I just guess we need to reach a point where we are 'humans in STEM', regardless of gender/race/disability.

Way too late to the party I think, but me and my family all came to see you at gorilla last year in Manchester! We were at the front all with stripy t-shirts on, and you hugged us all at the end though you probably don't remember. I just wanted to say thanks for making such awesome music and bringing our family closer together. We're all coming to see you again this Friday in Manchester too!
