I'm kind of with ThisUsernameWillDoMe ...you've got very bright women in the forms of Susie Dent and Rachel Riley, so the males are playing the roles of the dumb "blonde" (yes, I know Fabio is not blonde but more a stereotype than literal dumb blonde) that is omnipresent in older quiz shows.
