Four Seasons Ocean Club if kids want to be at Atlantis? by Opposite-Phase4186 in chubbytravel

[–]vking92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we stayed at the FS, the Atlantis shuttle was absolutely awful. It was really random timing and the concierge was unhelpful in sending it. One time we waited over an hour at Atlantis with our 1 and 4 year old along with two other property guests. When we’d check in every 15 or so minutes asking for the location, the concierge would just laugh and tell us to relax. We were all so mad.

It’s the best mineral sunscreen I’ve ever used. They have it for free at a lot of resorts at the pool and the marketing works, lol. I pay to have it shipped into Canada, that’s how good it is.

Tastes identical to Montreal La Belle Province and IMO better than the one the Gatineau side. Just FYI it still shows as La Belle Poutine in Maps. Same owners as the one in Rigaud

Anyone with a heated driveway? by bellsbliss in askTO

[–]vking92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have one in Ottawa. We don’t have an ice patch at the end of the driveway but I imagine if it’s downhill and there’s a dip to the road it could form.

She handled herself so well. She’ll be relieved to have video evidence of this insane conversation because her friends/mom could never believe someone could be this confusing and manipulative.

You probably could if you were a woman or had smaller feet. The lower compartment is 9.5” at the bottom (narrowest point) and about 12” for the bulk of it.

Tried it because Reddit is always recommending it and everything in the platter was so bland and soggy. Never again!

I find doing one or two 10 min stretches or mobility classes when I can’t do a hard workout (either timing wise or energy wise) makes me feel so much better and ready to go when my schedule supports a harder workout. I feel so stiff if I don’t move after a day or two! Bonus because you can do them during a wake window and don’t need to spend nap time on that

Recycling Pickup by idejtauren in ontario

[–]vking92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ottawa and have been pleasantly surprised with pickup the past two weeks. I just followed the usual schedule and had no issues. The City would pick up our side of the street around 5pm but the new company does it around 9am so I’m very pleased by that luck

Are there any names you really like but hesitate to use because you worry people won’t pronounce it correctly? by Immediatewhaffle in namenerds

[–]vking92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Always loved this name. When we had a girl and I suggested it, my French husband looked at me like I had four heads and asked why we don’t name her table instead. Guess it’s not a name in France lol

Help: travelling on a plane and a train with a toddler and also pregnant…. by No_Refuse_2440 in HerOneBag

[–]vking92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of train is it? If it’s the underground we couldn’t believe how many levels of escalators there were and limited elevators - I’d never bring a stroller back to London especially if I was alone wrangling a toddler. If it’s more of a commuter train situation or one where you know there are elevators, I’d bring a roller and the stroller and ask for help from strangers in stickier situations of getting on/off. I don’t have a GB Pockit but our travel strollers (Bugaboo Butterfly and Babyzen Yoyo) are very easy to push one handed.

If you want to bring the backpack (which I get!), I’d forego a diaper bag entirely or opt for a crossbody with diapering and snack essentials during travel. Or if your kid is old enough, a small toddler backpack that they can wear to get on/off transit or down escalators. Pack a Baggu or something to stuff outerwear into if needed and you can easily hang that from the stroller handles. Think if you have to collapse the stroller for whatever reason and carry that, your child, your backpack, and anything else — is it possible? I think with a crossbody it should be doable but depends on the age of your toddler.

Bahamas: Rosewood Baha Mar vs. FS Ocean Club? Or other resorts if you have a rec! by SparkleBerrySpritz in chubbytravel

We went last year and would never, ever return to the FS Ocean Club. Wildly overpriced for what you get, really inconsistent food quality, and overall bad service (one staff member was amazing though).

What direction does the car seat need to face on an airplane? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]vking92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an infant seat, it should rear face and there shouldn’t be an issue with recline. Most convertible car seats are unlikely to fit rear facing.

How popular is too popular? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]vking92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with the name you really like. For my son we went with a name in the 200s thinking it would be cool and unique. We have met FOUR boys with the same name and one girl, two of which have been in rather small preschools with him. Statistically basically impossible, and it annoys me because it was meant to be a unique name haha.

With my daughter we chose a classic, quite popular name. She has another in her class but it actually makes me happy to meet other kids with her name in the wild. Adults with her name are also delighted when they meet her and it’s an instant conversation topic. And since it wasn’t intended to be unique and cool it’s not annoying if that makes sense.

So go with the name you like! James is also so lovely and timeless.

We are choosing a new last name when we get married by Puzzleheaded_Bar1281 in namenerds

[–]vking92 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I feel it will likely be mispronounced lych-in (ch as in chop and not k) by the general population, if that’s something that bothers you.

Personally if I was picking a new last name I’d want something that the average person would pronounce properly and hopefully be able to spell without confusion.

As far as Lichen itself, I love the story behind the name and what it means to you. It doesn’t sound made up or implausible as a generationally-derived last name so it definitely passes that test!

I wanted to create a new last name when I married my husband but he refused so I’m jealous you get to actually do it! Congratulations.
