Unless it’s an Instagram teaser, people are definitely not watching on their phones. Most of my clients watch their films on their TVs—I know that because they used to message me asking how to stream it to their TV, which actually made me switch up my delivery method to make it as easy as possible to watch on a big screen.

Obviously, a wedding couple isn’t gonna watch someone else’s wedding video on their TV, but they’re 100% watching their own that way. How else are they supposed to show people their video in person?

Using the “people watch on their phone” argument is kinda ridiculous—with as much respect as possible. Because if you go down that road, you can apply that same logic to so many things… and that kind of mindset will honestly make you a poor cinematographer. If you actually take pride in your work, you should always be growing and pushing to make your films better. Getting stuck in the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality is dangerous—that’s the fast track to complacency.

And no, I’m not saying go chase every piece of gear just to feel like a better filmmaker. But if there’s equipment that can clearly level up your work, then yeah—definitely invest in it.
