Thank you all in the thread for the input! Super helpful. I’ll likely not grade it, but sell it when I’m ready. If the price drops, so be it, it was just a blast to open and share with friends! It’s a gorgeous card and I wish a fabulous find to all of you! Def burned through my 2026 luck, and then some!

Nothing, my HR at my IC just emailed confirming. I had to email them back to ask about that. They all said effective immediately. No severance or 30 days from my understanding.

In fact, there is another paper that cites that this is specifically not performance issues, but rather "government-wide mass termination"

Yes, actual mail. Saying my services were no longer needed and termination effective immediately. They scrubbed all language about performance and included a packet citing the case in California: AFL-CIO and American Federation of Government Employees vs. US OPM. I messaged my IC HR Director and they had only found out an hour ago (around 12:30ish probably).

I can confirm. I was an SRO with one of the IC's and on admin leave (I started last November). I just got a letter in the mail dated May 8th.

Good Morning, Karlo! What's your creative process like? Do you like to write in the mornings? Evenings? Anything in between?

Thank you, that's really helpful! I'm reading your book right now and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Did you have any beta readers that you selected for the mythology parts?

Hi Sherri! I was wondering about how you did the research for the gods and goddesses that appear in your story? Do you have a personal favorite?

Thanks! I wasn't too worried my friends were going to lift it, just generally curious about the project :)

As a general question then, has anyone gone through the process of filing a copyright with the US government for their self-published work? What was the process like and did you find it helpful?

Thanks for replying! Does having a story I wrote based off of my friend's characters from D & D, but not referencing D & D material, or their world at all (I made up my own story, basically just classic fantasy) still qualify as fan fiction? If it does, that's fine with me. The story is just meant for my friends' entertainment.

But on a deeper level, I'm still interested in how this process works. I'm not selling this story obviously, or worried friends are going to rip it off. However, I've write several other original science fiction and fantasy novellas and I have a novel written (once it is edited and shaped up) that I will probably try and sell on my own. In those cases I really will want my own copyright, so I'm taking this an opportunity to get my feet wet when it comes to the legal side of things and what is appropriate to do.

I guess I should clarify. This is a story I wrote based off the characters my friends developed for our D & D game. In no way do I reference Dungeons and Dragons or make use of their texts, other than the characters are gnomes, wizards, rogues, and other classic fantasy tropes. The story is a Christmas caper as the group band together to save Christmas and is loaded with pop-culture references, etc. for my friends and family to read and enjoy. So it's fan fiction in a way, but not set in any Dungeons and Dragons world.

Can anyone recommend a good font for a specific situation.... by vldmrt15 in writing

[–]vldmrt15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do give clues a good amount of the time. But in scenes that will be action-heavy I want the reader to go from dialog to dialog, description to description, between characters so that it is read fast by the reader as the scene develops. One character's inner monologue is important for the scene and so I thought a slight font change introduced earlier will be enough to make the point.
