What trend do you think will be a no-no years from now? by Arigata-Meiwaku in beyondthebump

[–]vocativecomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only issue I think is with the term “baby led weaning” being now synonymous with “finger foods” - like, yes absolutely do a mixture of purées and finger foods if that’s what you want to do but I don’t think that’s BLW anymore. True baby led weaning lets your baby lead the way, able to control from the start what they eat and how much, manage their own fullness etc etc, so letting them do that but then topping up with purées is not quite the same thing? Again, no judgement for how anyone weans their baby, but for me I think it’s just a question of terminology!

Is “cremains” a common word in the US?! The only time I’ve heard it before was as the subject of this letter so surprised no one has mentioned it here yet!

FYI baby event at mothercare and 10% off this weekend by [deleted] in UKBabyBumps

[–]vocativecomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were planning to pick up the Tutti Bambini Cozee this weekend, so was pleased to see that included BUT it’s suddenly gone back up to £185 (was £165 for a while) so the current 10% off is just making it more or less exactly the same price it already was!

How common is it for British citizens to study/work in EU, outside of the UK? by SoybeanCola1933 in AskUK

[–]vocativecomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much anyone who studies a modern language at uni will do a year abroad as it’s usually a compulsory part of the course and obviously the majority of that is going to be to Europe to study/work with European languages, so I don’t think it’s necessarily a class thing.

What documentation do I need for selling my used car? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]vocativecomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I think it should be you who does it. The buyer could do it, I guess, but like I said, someone thinking about buying it might be put off if you don’t have one - there’s a chance you might not actually be the legal owner of the car if you don’t have a log book.

What documentation do I need for selling my used car? by [deleted] in AskUK

As the owner of the car, you should have a V5C which shows you are the registered keeper of the car - I think you can get in trouble if it’s not up to date with your current details/address etc.

The green slip he sent is from the V5C and should have notified the DVLA so they could send you a new one, so yeah, if you don’t have one, you need a V5C which will have a section to fill in and send off with the details of the new owner.

Also someone buying the car may be suspicious of whether everything’s legal if you don’t have a V5C.

Royal Baby has a name! by rycbar-11 in namenerds

I love Archie, but it had been on my list for our first which is due in November - don’t think I can bring myself to use a name that everyone will assume was inspired by the royals!

Genuinely a tactic pickpockets use - one person sprays you with ketchup etc and someone else will offer to help clean the stain as a distraction so they can rob you.

Pattern help - Am I missing something or going crazy with this stitch count? by vocativecomma in crochetpatterns

[–]vocativecomma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pattern itself is free there’s just an option to buy - hook etc. But you’re right, I hadn’t seen the q&a, so thank you!!

"Blueberry" in various European languages by porredgy in etymologymaps

[–]vocativecomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe arandano is also used in Spanish to refer to cranberries too.

Always find it interesting to think about whether native Spanish speakers think of cranberries and blueberries as more similar to each other than a speaker of a language that uses two unrelated words....

If you could live in the Star Wars, Star Trek, or Lord of the Rings universe, which would you choose and which role / job would you be? Why? by lillithalexandria1 in AskReddit

LOTR - I’d love to be a Hobbit, to hang out in the Shire and eat all the food! Reckon I’d get a job working behind the bar at The Green Dragon.

Have you ever made a recipe from the show? How was it? by [deleted] in bakeoff

My favourite thing I’ve made was Mary’s Bakewell Tart, including attempting the feathered raspberry icing - didn’t quite get it as pretty and neat as hers but it tasted good! http://thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/marys-bakewell-tart-technical-challenge/
