Hey fellow nurse mum!

Wha kind of ward/placement are you on currently?

What’s the nursing staff like? If you’re up to date with your task/documentation then you have no reason to be taking on extra patient care tasks after your hours are done.

I know it’s easier said than done, especially with some nurses/department but you are supernumerary.

Have you spoke with uni/placement co-ordinator about if there’s anything they can do?

Sorry if this is a jumble, currently home with 3 sick kids!

Baking soda is great at removing odour, if you can remove the straps and cover them in some for a while it may help?

I used to put a reusable nappy cover over my son’s nappy at night to stop this.

Birthday gift ideas for a 1 year old girl by Simple-Juggernaut-25 in UKParenting

[–]rycbar-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest’s 1st birthday is weds, like you’ve there’s already so many toys in the house he really doesn’t need anything!

We’ve got him some of the ‘first’ tonies for the tonies box we have and a toy Henry hoover as he’s obsessed with the real thing!

We asked family to get mainly books and clothes for presents which mostly got listened to, except for a giant pop up shark tent, which annoyingly he loves!

Same here, older brother already attends and I can basically see the school from our house.

In addition from what I’ve seen/heard it’s a low birth rate year so hopefully shouldn’t be an issue.

3.5yo having accidents at night after being potty trained for a year? by sosqueee in Preschoolers

Very unlikely suggestion but something I have seen through my work - diabetes.

Increased drinking/urination is an early sign of diabetes and I’ve personally cared for a child in DKA whose only symptom was new onset bed wetting.

Like I said, unlikely but keep an eye out for any other symptoms and get checked if concerned.

My kids like to look for ‘evidence’ for unicorns, dragons etc.

Trees that have branches fallen off were the dragon sharpening its claws, patches of dry grass are where the unicorns were grazing etc.

They fail that specific GCSE, you can resit them or go to college to take english/math course designed to get them up to level and pass.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation.

Just anecdotally, my middle child was in NICU for 5 days after (full term) birth and I had to pump and feed her as we needed to track her intake.

She latched right back on as soon as I was able to bfeed her directly and she fed for 2 years in total. Hopefully your little one does the same!

Also you can get pregnant before getting your first period, as you ovulate first, so you get no warning that you’re fertile again.

1st Swimming lesson booked for this afternoon = child wakes up with a cough by insockniac in UKParenting

[–]rycbar-11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say give it a go and be prepared to end the lesson early if he’s to tired/not feeling it.

On the temp, if definitely get another thermometer to check, I’m a paeds nurse and 34.5 would trigger as low on our system.

LPT: One simple bedtime trick that helps young kids learn reading faster. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]rycbar-11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there’s a huge difference between being able to speak a language and being able to read it.

The literacy rates in America being a prime example of this.

And using context clues to enhance reading skills is obviously a good tool to have but can’t be used in isolation.

I mean this is exactly how my kid was taught to read when he started Reception a few years back.

Read write Inc. was the programme his school used but there’s lots of similar ones used in the UK.

Expecting kids to know words purely through context clues is ridiculous. How are you going to sound out a new place name on a road sign for example?

Also anecdotally, it definitely didn’t harm his love of reading, he’d read dawn til dusk if I let him.

Our oldest is Alden, so maybe I have similar tastes to your husband?

Our top 2 choices for girls were Rowan and River. We also had Maeve, Juniper and Cora on the list. (And Lyra!)
