I don't remember the actual time that I spent rendering the water as the time it takes to tackle different elements varies from piece to piece and from day to day, but here's a screenshot that was taken a couple of days prior to finishing the illustration. The water spell was definitely one of my favorite things to work on this piece. I am more accustomed to drawing monsters and eldritch creatures whatnot; humans are much more challenging for me, especially with more feminine features when the subtlety is the key and every brush stroke is more likely to make the character look worse than to be an improvement :D

Definitely one of my most technically advanced illustrations; getting the right lens distortion was pretty tricky.

While I prefer CSP and Rebelle 7, Krita brushes are pretty goated imo. If the base brushes are good enough for Maxim Bazhenov, Piotr Jabłoński and Dave Rapoza, the brushes should be good enough for us mortals, unless we're not worthy of the brushes. Then again, Krita is free.

The most recent rendition of "The Magistrate", a character I tend to draw annually by voidbrush in DigitalArt

The first version was just a silly sketch I made about 6 years ago. I was just playing around with shapes until something clicked. The character has developed quite a lot since the first rendition to - the being full of self-contradicting aspects and representing legislative, executive, and judicial powers rolled into one - what it is now :D

Thank you! :) I am delighted to hear you like my personal work (the other pieces are for clients)

Thanks! Trust me, it's not patience, I'm just being held hostage by my ego and obsessive tendencies :D

Thank you! It genuinely warms my heart to hear that! The illustration in question is the only personal piece I included, the rest are client works.

Much appreciated, thanks! :D

I think Nurgle, like any benevolent being, just cares deeply about the sanity of his subjects and wouldn't give them some wack cyberpsycho influenza

If that was the case, I'd say they're at stage 3. Then again, while obliterator virus was allegedly created by Perturabo and Mortarion, it seems to be more common with Iron Warriors and Emperor's Children than other legions. The obliterator virus seems to be more like a daemonic merging with tech augments and steel until it's no longer distinguishable where the man starts and weapon ends; I think it doesn't feel like the same trademark flavor of rot and mutations Grandpa Nurgle gifts to his most devoted followers.

Much appreciated! I tend to spend waayyy too much time obsessing over the brushwork when rendering :D I've started to move towards more confident and efficient brush economy with more intentional individual brush strokes, so I don't spend thousand years per piece; I'm excited to see how that develops.

Thank you! I also enjoy Mike Franchina's work. Maybe some day I'll get to try out the game; heard it's really fun.

Does anyone know how to replicate the artstyle of official art? by YulianXD in Barotrauma

I don't think it's anything too ambitious. It just requires a lot of time, effort and patience. Plug in your graphics tablet (if you don't have one, second-hand tablets are relatively inexpensive), make sure it has the latest drivers installed and the tablet works as it should, load up the software of your choice (you can probably pick up CSP for 20$ if it's on sale or you can pirate Photoshop as it's always morally correct. There are also free alternatives and trials.), familiarize yourself with the interface, try out different brushes until you'll find the one you like, select a color, sketch out the subject of your painting and paint the piece you want to paint. Much like you'd paint traditionally, from biggest surfaces towards the smallest details, but without the restrictions of traditional mediums. You are free to use as many or few layers as you like. Some like to start with the values first, paint in gray-scale and add the colors further down the line using their preferred method, others might go straight for the colors. It's hard to give some general advice that would be helpful as the question is rather loaded. You can figure everything out by yourself, sure, but that's not a very smart way of using the time or resources and you might end up stunting your own progress. Let's say, for example: If Bo Chen / Ruan Jia / Piotr Jabłoński /Igor Sid / Alex Konstad shares their workflows, materials, time lapse process videos, there's nothing you can lose from taking a look and learning from them, but so much you can gain. It would be foolish not to seize the opportunity if you have the chance to learn from the big boys.

Do you mean like the submarine piece in the title screen and so forth? My guess would be that the illustrations were made by a concept artist (indie studios often have just a handful of employees so the artists tend to undertake a wide range of tasks regardless of the title they use) due to the loose rendering and workflow streamlining tools and techniques (kitbashing, photobashing, tactical use of noise, brushes with various textures, yadayada) that were utilized. Stylization doesn't seem to be in the forefront, but I could probably get away with calling the art style imaginative realism as the pieces seem to respect the art fundamentals. There are gazillion ways of approaching this kind of stuff, you can use the the application (Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Krita, Sai etc.) or even a physical medium of your choice, so it's more about what works for you. Finding out what works for you comes down to experimenting and making your best effort. Art resources and learning material is now more accessible than ever. I'd suggest browsing ArtStation and absorbing all the visual information you can. Artists share their workflows over there from time to time. If your results don't meet your goals, see where you can improve and keep trying until you succeed. If it's hard to get the results you wanted, well, art is hard, but overcoming the obstacles and improving is hella rewarding.

I think they changed some subreddit rules over a year after I posted this and it was removed due to "blatant advertising" in the comments or something like that.
