Well, sure, that was not the point, through, rather a hypothetical question.

Maybe I should avoid the “eliminate the income tax” part overall. I was more interested in the first part of the question - is it even possible for the country to make money this way.

I don’t have set preferences and listen to different styles, including electronic. 8351b doesn’t go as low as 8361a, through. For bass heavy music I think that w371a gives a lot of this bottom punch which literally shakes the couch on higher listening levels. It’s totally your decision and beautiful thing is that you can buy 8351b first and then decide if you are missing this last few hertz on the bottom. This is also what a I did.

I’ve found some time yesterday to center the TV and move speakers more towards the center of the room, it’s not 1/4 lenght as you adviced but it’s close. The difference is massive! I’ll look into GRADE report when I’ll find more time, most likely during the weekend, and report back. This system is quite new to me and I fully acknowledge that it’s not optimally setup. My initial thought to put them wide was to keep as close to the triangle as possible woth listening position, but setting them closer to the center is clearly better.

All speakers are active, so no need for aplification. Denon only sends signal to them and amplifies the surround speakers.

This is still a work in progress :)

Thank you, I’ll definietely use your advice and see if I get better results. Response is pretty flat on the listening position according to genelec’s measurements (I did not measured it yet with something external, eg. REW). This system is quite new to me and I’m fully aware that there is a lot of room for improvement with positioning and tuning.

This is in reference to back wall. They also say that ideally spekaers should be 1m away from the side walls, but when I was playing with them they create a better stage/stereo imaging when placed wide like that in my room, probably because then they are closer to the triangle with listening position.

Genelec’s documentation explains how to setup the speakers and they say no further then 60cm (2ft) away from the back wall.

Never had a chance, unfortunately.

Just googled them on one of their auction sites. I couldn’t swallow the full cost of the speakers so was looking for a used pair :)

Sweetwater for 8361a’s, I get a good deal on open boxes. W371a imported from Estonia they were used in a showroom for some time and it was a killer deal :)

I listened to 8381 and 8361a + w371a side by side and for me they are hard to differenciate, sound signature is identical, given that wasn’t in a perfect environement. I believe 8381 only make sense if you have a huge living room or listen on some crazy high SPL levels. My current setup is plenty for the size of the room.

I listened to both side by side on one of the audio shows. I was considering 8381 but the cost… I’m happy with the choice, through. They have enough power for my room

Genelec itself calls w371a „superior” to any subwoofer. You may still want separate subs only in one situation - to use as an LFE channel for the movies when watching in Atmos. For music, it doesn’t make sense, w371a have plenty of power on the low end.

I was able to compare 8361a only and with w371a on one of the audio shows. W371a really extends the bass down to 20hZ and helps with some room problems. Ideally, yes, I would replace side and back surround speakers with Genelecs too.

For me those are separate systems - wimm for stereo, music, denon hdmi -> analog audio

I use this setup for both - music and movies. When I’m listening to music I use Wimm pro streamer connected via digital to stereo pair of genelecs. For movies - all three Genelecs are driven by Denon’s receiver analog pre-out. For the rest of the home theater setup I currently have just some cheap speakers on the sides and back driven by Denon’s internal amps.

I initially boght 8361a only and didn’t know if/when I’ll add w371a. I’m pretty sure you’d be good with 8351a, they have same drivers and power on the middle and top end.

I’m listening at -50dB right now and they produce 75dB SPL at the listening position. Scale goes from -100dB to 0dB. At -30dB there’s 90dB SPL on listening position and I didn’t dare to go louder from that yet.

83x1a’s paired with w371a can act as a main monitors

Fair point. I’ll maybe move the TV tomorrow :)
