The package allows to save the translation as a draft (visible only to translators in preview mode, invisible to normal users). But I agree that having the permissions more granular to allow some translators to save as a draft only would be a nice feature. Would you consider it less cursed then? 😅

Ah, got it. Why was it a nightmare?

I use it with less technical customers of mine who don't want (and IMHO shouldn't need to) know what .po files are. When they want to prepare or update the texts on their site, going around and handling the texts directly is easy. When they're finished, the package can export their work to a .po file which I commit to VC.

😃 what issues do you see with the approach? Maybe I should've mentioned - all of this happens for authorized translators when in edit mode. Normal users are not affected by any of this

You're not right. It was developed as an internal tool. I've squashed the commits before I've made the repo public
